What is the trip computer?

Hi all.

I have heard that the Cupra-R comes with a trip computer which offers all kinds of useful things such as mpg figures and amount of miles left in the tank which sounds very good.

What other information is displayed on the trip computer and does the standard Cupra also come with a trip computer or not?

Hi, I am not sure if it is standard on the Cupra, but I can tell you that on my Cupra R the computer can tell me the following:

1) Time

2) Outside Temperature

3) Current MPG

4) Average MPG

5) Miles remaining in tank

6) Journey time

7) How good I am at driving

 only joking about the last bit!:)

Yes, Cupra, FR & Cupra R models all come with trip computers, you can find out MPG, average MPG, howmany miles till you need to refuel, average MPH, drive time, drive miles etc.

There is a 'reset' button underneath the stork, if you press it in, it will give you a 2nd trip counter, this one calculates everything you do until you reset it!

I have finally decided I want the Cupra-R over the Cupra but I don't really want to spend more than £8,000 although I can wait until September as I don't intend to sell the MX5 until after the summer and the wife doesn't give birth until October.

I assume I should be able to pick up a 60,000 mileage one in black/yellow for around £8,000 in six months time. Is this going to be about right?

Incidentally, does the 210bhp and 225bhp vary in trip computers or was there no change in the two different models?

Also, I heard the dash lights stay on all the time. Is this true and is it annoying as I believe they are bright red? Is this the case in both the Cupra and Cupra-R.

Cheers - Cobraman

No idea about the pricing

Same trip computer across the VAG range from the mk3 golf right up to newer ones. After all it is a VAG car.

Same with the dash lights, on all the time for most VAG models. There is a dash brightness dial so you can adjust it. In the last gen polo it was bright blue which was eye searing!

some may say lala land....
in daylight you can hardly tell the dash is light, and it is dimmable as Nathanio mentions, but i still find it bright - though i have sensitive eyes

You could do worse that pop into a stealer and ask to look through a manual, unless google can find one

Mines same, told me i had 25 miles in the tank, went about a mile and had 5.

The miles remaining indicator is worked out on how you have driven in the past 50km. So it caries all the time. If you rag the car around, it will drop down quickly. But if you then slow down and drive like Miss Daisy, it will start going back up again.

It's an indication of how many miles are left, based upon your current driving. Not based on driving in any manner you like.
