service cost?

just coming to 80k on my 1.4 mk2 and it needs a service

contacted local vag specialist and they have given me a price of £210 for this

this is parts and labour, plus a diagnostic as well which is needed as the car is not running correct and i have had another garage take a look and they say this is needed.

is this price steep or not, as my last service cost me like 60 quid oh and i get a free replacement car as well

I know how you feel mate. Im needing a 60,000mile service & the local SEAT dealer/garage wants £180! is this normal?

this is not a local seat garage but a VAG specialist as i need to find out why its not running correctly as it is, if its terminal well not terminal but going to cost me half what the car is worth then i will start the look for a new car end of story

your service manual should say. Once a car is out of warranty Id never take it back to a main dealer or vag specialist, they are just too expensive. For example timing belt and waterpump fitment, dealers wanted 330 for labour alone. The Garage I went to only charged 100. Seats arnt exactly difficult to service, in fact Id go so far as to say do everything but the timing belt yourself, I do.

well nothing is set yet, i have asked them what the service contains but i am yet to hear back on this yet

depending on what they say i might go elsewhere for it, and go back to them for a diagnostic at a later date as it really needs doing to find out why the car keeps cutting out

haynes manual is your friend!
me and my dad have serviced both my 1.4 and gti and they are pretty basic to work on and the engine bay has loads of room. especially that 1.4! i could just about stand in it :cartman:

thermostat sounds likely chris.
dosen't happen all the time only seems to be when cold, and happens mostly when reversing as well

have had it looked at and the rotar arm was catching the cap replaced and seemed a lot better but still occurring, and he said he could not find anything else wrong short of that

plus its not idling smoothly either, sounds a bit rough

Try doing it yourself! You can use the Haynes manual to find out what needs to be done.

Look out for the cambelt change though, I think it's around 60k?

The first time it'll be relatively expensive if you're shelling out for tools, but then it's cheap every time you do it after that!
