Tyre Pressures and 17's

Recently bought some 17" alloys and just fitted them, just wanted to know what tyre pressures (front and rear) people run with 205/40/17 tyres fitted.

Will get some pics up when I've finished repainting my calipers and cleaned the car.

im running between about 28-30 in mine. the max rating on the tyre wall says 35.

i go 30psi all round you wont go wrong then i find they wear evenly then

30 on the front, 31 on the back for me.

ive found that more pressure in the rear tyres makes for a bumpier, bouncier ride......theres more weight over the front tyres than theyre is over the rears.

I run 32psi all round that works for me, runs OK on track even when they are hot, and wear evenly BUT that is using the tesco air pump.

think about it, it doesn't matter what the size the tires or wheels are its air pressure, not volume. eg 31psi is the same amount of pressure in a 195/55/15 as it is in a 245/35/20. i've always stuck by this rule, it makes sense

It does make a difference to the way the weight is distributed through the inner surface area of the tyre. Don't forget it the air that transmits a vehicles weight to the ground and provides limited dampeneing, the tyre just keeps the air where it should and provides the shape and grip required.
On VW Transporters at work they have a sticker for the tyre pressures and depending on what size tyre and also diameter rim it has on it changes the tyre pressures between 49 and 64 psi.
And before someone says but thats a van and they carry different weights, the different weighted vans have different stickers for tyre pressures.

I remember when i was well into the bmx scene, i had some 100psi flatland tyres.....needless to say, giving my mate a "backy" on the rear pegs down the road at about 20mph didnt do them any justice.....boooooom!!!! Painfull too!!

Bet it was a bit messy aswell.

That must have been a loud bang when it went with that pressure in it.

my tyres say maximum of 50psi (eagle f1's) and this site recomends 45psi for "speed"!!!!
