True fuel consumption for an FR TDi

I have been keeping a record of my fuel consumption for the last 1000 miles.

I nearly always use the same pump at the same petrol station so a little while ago I filled the tank until the fuel pump cut out for the first time. I then zeroed the trip computer and when I needed to refuel I filled up the same way at the same pump and noted down the mileage and amount of fuel I put in.

I have repeated this for the last 1000 miles and after a few calculations the true mileage comes out at 46 mpg.

It's not a perfect method but I think it's much more accurate than relying on the computer readout.

I am pretty pleased with the mpg considering that it's the winter and I have a lot of short journeys and stop/start driving.

This is possibly the most boring post ever but I would be interested to see what true consumption figures other people are getting, rather than what the computer reading says.

Not too far away
I've been doing fill to fill calculations for a bit:hide: :
Last 13,000 miles 42.6mpg average.
Last 2,500 miles 40.0mpg average.
Min mpg from a tank of 36.5 and a max of 50.2.

The computer readout is always optimistic :)

I worked my MPG out for the Ibiza for a few months (travelling about 500 miles a week) and I was averaging around 58mpg. The trip computer was indicating about 63-64 for each tank full - a very optimistic figure!

Oh my GOD!! I thought I was really sad as I have a spreadsheet to do all this. I also compare the calculated mpg against the computer mpg. Normally it is around 2% out, but can vary by up to 5%.

Since getting the car I have averaged as near as dammit, 55mpg. Last tank though was 58.7mpg!!!

not a boring thread at all quite funny really, all you nerds coming out the closet together:lol:
:givein: just kidding guys it is good that you don't always rely on the trip comp, and it helps potential buyers in making decisions too

I've done almost 18k from new and my average over those 17.5k miles is 43mpg, quite good really!

The cost for fuel for those 17.5k miles is £1750, not bad!

Warwickshire once.
I had a really hectic week, with loads of rushing from one meeting to another down Hairy A and B roads using full boost and still managed 36MPG for the week.:D

So glad I bought the Derv:)

PS I'm not even gonna comment on the spreadsheet business.......
