Hi there, Matt here from Essex.

Leaving the company and company car so I have bought a 51 plate Toledo 2.3 V5.

Has 34k on the clock.

Only paid £3600 for it, only problem is that its gold!

Pick it up on the 6th, can't wait!

Toledo 2.5 V3.

Welcome, but I think you've been done out a couple of cylinders there chap! Just kidding, know what you mean.

You sure do get a lot of car for your money with the Tolly V5. Lot's of kit, gold will be, well, kind of 'interesting'. Whereabouts in Essex are you? You'll certainly stand out as there aren't too many Toledo V5's out there and although I've seen them advertised I don't think I've come across a gold one in the flesh. I'll give you a flash if I ever see you around.

Just post up if you need to check anything out, although using the search normally turns up the goods.

Haha, sorted that!

Many thanks GrayT, can see you are the resident "post *****" on here!

Yes, loads for the money! Got one with the dimming rear view mirror, parking sensors the lot! Only mods I have in mind are a spoiler, maybe some skirts, upgrade the HU and CD changer to something MP3 and Alpine. May also upgrade the speakers. Oh and a panel filter!

Well yeah, kind of a bit of a post ***** in the Tolly section as there's so few of us about. But if you take a look at the post count of some of those Mk1 Leon and Ibiza boys and girls I am verging on celibate by comparison!

Funnily enough I think the V5 head unit and speakers aren't too bad as standard, but then I am twice your age!

Its just for mp3 functionality to be honest. I test drove it and fell in love with it. Gets a very good review on Parkers. It felt really sporty and tight.

Everyone at work started to take the mick as it was a grandad car etc but with 170bhp I know what makes sense...

What are the common faults, just so when I hand the last bit of money over I can check?

I don't think I will be getting an induction kit, just the panel filter.

So where are you guys from? Whereabouts in London/Essex?

I think people have routed mp3 players into the stock HU via a cable into the glovebox. I personally love the drive - it's not boy racer hot hatch stuff but very smooth, refined and torquey so you don't have to rev the nuts off it. You could probably get it up to 185 bhp with a remap but that's about all you can do with the V5 engine wise. Some subtle interior mods are nice like W8 interior light and I definitely recommend changing the gear knob for feel and looks.

Most common failures I'm aware of are water/damp in the footwells casued by poorly fitted pollen filter or blocked door seals (touch the carpets check for musty smell). Faulty brake light switch (not expensive and normally replaced with uprated switch) - this should be OK, simply check the brake lights come on! MAF failure - very common across the SEAT range. This is hard to check for as the problem creeps in. General under performance/hesitation/perhaps starting problems. Fan fuse burn out (this is one of the three fuses located under the fuse box cover on top of the battery). If this has ever gone though they are likely to have replaced the unit, but you could check for burn marks. Expect the rubber on the interior door pull handles to peel and look unsightly (I switched mine front to back just for cosmetic reasons).

Most problems are niggly rather than being expensive massive problems. Engines should take high mileages.

I'm in East Ham. Where are you in Essex?

I'm in Rainham, and many thanks for all the info. I will have a look. What does the W8 interior light look like?

It's the interior light out of a Passat W8 and has a couple of red leds in it to give the cabin a red glow at night (which you can dim with the dash lights) and it complements the existing dash illumination. Assuming you have a sunroof you would need this type: http://www.11tkp.co.uk/w8-light-install.htm

I forgot to mention. The sump is fairly low on the Toledo so may be worth checking for damage and don't take speed humps too fast, but I've not ever hit mine.

Used to live in Essex (parents near brentwood) but i'm now down south in Portsmouth.

Gray has pretty much hit the nail on the head. Theres some nice simple mods that change the car nicely. Floppy front blades, uprated light bulbs, honda civic/s2000 stubby aerial.

Enjoy the car mate

Hey Mat. Former Essex lad here too. From Witham but snuck across to Ipswich when noone was watching!

If the Gold V5 is a problem, I'll swap you for a green 20V if you like?:D

Haha, nice to meet everyone. Might have a go with that interior light - I don't think it has a sunroof as it has aircon / climate control.

The "floppy blades", does the wiper arms need to be swapped? I have a 03 plate Golf TDi company car I could swap ;) them with before I give it back.

So its not a whole wiper arm swap then, nice and easy.

So where can you get these W8 lights from? I take it that you only need to run a headlights on feed to it?
