hi well times come for me to get my 60k service ive looked round and theres no real answer to this, are there any members round gloucestershire-wiltshire area whos had theres done and also had there cambelt done at same time.

2. if i were to purchase the stuff anywere else do you reckon that seat would fit these in the service,

3. how much realistically shoud i pay

4. is it an easy job to do yourself.

5. would there be a price difference between, audi, skoda, seat, vw garages.

6. would you reccomend i went to a specialist such as dialynx

many thanks

i took mine to main dealer only to find out that they dont class the 60k service as a major one. all they did to mine was an oil change and lubed a few hinges for the grand total of £190. If your not too fussed about the main dealer service stamp i would seriously consider taking it somewhere else.

I cant remember what i payed for the cambelt to be done as i didnt have this done at main dealer. my mate did it for a silly cash deal.

Plus.....not only will they just do an oil change, they will wash your car for you and also find every single problem that you have and then qoute you for the work.........and then when you think your safe, you'll get letters, emails and phonecalls from them to ask if your ready for the work to be carried out or tell you that your mot is due.

Not that im against main dealers at all....lol

ditto.....they dont take the hint. even now i get emails asking me how my service went and that was 5k ago, ive replied to them no end of times telling them i was unhappy and i even spoke to the head technician who reckoned my bilsteins were knackered (yeah right, when they were almost new??).

I wont touch them with a barge pole.

My local garage did the following for £300. He's great and always sees me right. I'm based near Walsall if you want details.

Service (including oil, air filter, plugs etc)

Cambelt replaced

Pads AND discs on the front

I was gobsmacked at the price - don't go to a main dealer - they would have charged more than this just for the belt ...

the service part of your question is an easy diy job, although it may not be if your not mechanically minded! as for the cam belt i wouldn't tackle this yourself unless you have access to a hydraulic press cos the tensioner on these is a pain in the ass as i found out when i did mine!!:censored:

Or if you have the special tool and pin that VW/SEAT etc use. Can't remember the number of it now. Borrowed these from the car side at work when i did mine.
It winds the hydraulic tensioner in using the tensioner it acts on, then you lock it off with a special pin. Still a pain to wind it down with an 8mm spanner though in restricted space.

so does the cambelt have to be done at 60k? or is it recommended? or all just depend on condition of the belt?

iv just been quoted £100 labour for my cambelt change at my local vw specialists, and he is supplying the parts (he said will be about £30 more expensive than buying from ecp or gsf etc) BUT with this kit, if the cambelt ever snaps the company who supplied the belt will pay for all the repair work to be done inc labour and new engine if needed! well worth the extra £30 in my opinion!
