well mines 2000 model, its app engine code but think it comes ko3s turbo as the actuator has one vacum line.
In also has folding electric mirrors which are rare option and key window closure as well. should be going in a for a custom code soon

does yours have leather? auto dimming mirror, cruise, cd changer, electric memory seats, automatic wipers?
if its a cupra it should!
the electric mirrors things was standard on a cupra as was the windows closure.

as IBD says the ones badged cupra had the toys and the sports didn't. mines a November 2000 Cupra and has all the toys - don't know how i'll go about replacing it when the time comes because there arn't many cars i can think of that well specced for similar money

now i'm not sue about my own:confused: it's on the V5 as a cupra, badged cupra and has an AUQ engine code but it doesn't have cruise, or remote window closure (unless by this you mean holding the key turned in the lock which opens/closes them?).

From what i've gathered, by reading this forum, between seat and the dealer network it seems that the specs of these early models vary wildly no matter how they're badged.

A little off topic but what difference does the Variable valve timing and the "s" turbo make anyway? I thought they were all 180 BHP but then i'm new to all this too

If the engine code is APP it has K03. If its AUQ it has K03S and variable valve timing.

Re your folding mirrors. Disconnect the battery for a few minutes then re-connect. 9 times out of 10 this "reminds" the car that the mirrors are supposed to fold. Remember you'll need your radio code after doing this.

Folding mirrors are not a rare option, they're standard on all Sports and Cupras.

Heard few people that i checked with that have sport dont have folding mirros.

check your fuses as it may be blown!

sounds like you have a cupra, but not one of the early ones. you have probably got the newer body kit?
i believe he does mean using the key for window closing. unless they have ungrading with after market alarm.

the k03s turbo can hold boost a little higher up the rev raneg compaired to the k03.
standard you probably wont see any difference.
if they get remapped the k03 will struggle to get over 200bhp.
the k03s can get 210 perhaps a little more.

for clarification, the early ones had app engine code (k03) and leather electric seat and all the toys.
then they dropped the toys and the price.

Cruise was not standard on the early Cupras. My first one (I'm on my 3rd), was a 2000 X reg "proper" Cupra with AUQ engine (now that is rare in the first Cupras), built in Belgium, rain sensor, auto wipers, leather electric memory seats, ESP.

Jetski's car IS an original early Cupra the same as mine was. They are very very rare with the AUQ engine at this age but they do exist. My advice would be "don't ever sell it", good ones with this spec are like hens teeth.

As far as the difference in driving between APP and AUQ. They both boost at the same revs, about 2k rpm but the K03S on the AUQ will keep going all the way to the redine due to it being larger on one side. Its actually a hybrid K03/K04. The VVT also helps the AUQ engine to rev better.

I've driven both and can say that the AUQ is a superior driving experience. The APP dies very quickly after about 5k rpm. AUQ tunes to about 20 bhp more than APP and with a much less obvious tail-off in power.

Looking at the engine from front of car, look just in front of and below the front left side of the plastic engine cover. There's a piece of metal there with three letters stamped on it. Thats your engine code.

APP - Bummer!
But that's still 180 bhp right, and not 150 as in the Golf?

Yes, its still 180bhp. Just not as tuneable as the AUQ.

Same engine and turbo, different ECU mapping as far as I'm aware.

Not quite as simple as that Rob. Before 2003, the Golf engines mainly had throttle cables and were not drive by wire. Different throttle bodies, different valves, different cam gear. Lots of small differences. Also there are about 20 different variants of the BW K03 series turbo.

This page has a fair old list of engine codes:

Just for the record my old 2000X sport had folding mirors which I understand were standard on the sport, there was no CD autochanger though that was an option.
It was rated at 180bhp. Cracking engine, happy memories, bit of a gas guzzler though giving around 28mpg overall.
Mine was a fabby azelaia red which I understand was a mistake as the colour was never intended for the UK. Great colour but paint was quite soft and mine was peppered with stone chips.
Cheers, David

Looks outstanding mate. Nice to see an unadulterated (bar the towbar) "proper" Cupra.

Try some of this stuff on your leather: http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=26_34&products_id=57

Its without doubt the best leather conditioner you can buy and it'll have your interior looking and most importantly smelling like new in no time.

I see you're getting a remap soon. Jim at Star Performance in Dysart will sort you out. He got 221bhp and 250 lbs/ft from my last Cupra with the AUQ engine, only mods were a milltek cat-back and a hyperboost DV.
