what difference...

.... is there between a turbo back exhaust system or a cat back exhaust, i understand that you get downpipe sports cat with turbo back system but are the benefits of this worth the extra cost? What sort of BHP / Torque increase would i be looking at from each option (i have revo, forge dv and ramair cai)? And before someone says do a serch i have done and have read lots and lots of old threads on here but cannot see what gains should be expected and does it make a lot of difference to the actual drive of the car and if so in what way? Any help would be appreciated as i have a hole in my back box and need to replace asap and dont know if i should go for the full system or just the cat back as i'm a bit short on funds at the moment but if there is going to be a big enough differnce to warrant a full system then i will suffer the extra cost? Thanks in advance for your help!

u wont (or atleast shouldnt expect to) see much if any benefit from fitting a cat back system.

if your looking for performance gains.. de-restricting the main elements is where its at with a turbo back system.

however recording gains is slightly comical since on differing rolling roads some people have seen bigger increase with a cat back system than those with a turbo back system which is highly unlikely when its the same system.

as a rough estimate..10-15bhp and similar torque from a full turbo back system

nothing from a catback (in my opinion)

Thanks for replys. So if there will only be 10-15 bhp increase is that noticeable when driving or should i save my money and just get a cat back system?

well i have been thinking about putting car up for sale and maybe buying astra gsi turbo or civic type r, but cannot seem to bring myself to put car up for sale! Dont think i'd go to far mod wise i've had it 2 years now and been happy with performance just think i fancy a bit of a change and if i would get the feeling of a bit of a change with a full exhaust system them it might have helped to convince me not to sell it!

have you drove a type-r mate? i sold my type r to get the cupra...dont get me wrong because it was a fantastic car in everyway...but it was overrated speedwise....tourque was nothing to shout about. to be honest it depends on what you are after....tunability for your money (my reason for swapping) or just a pretty much standard car that is quicte quick. Will miss mine tho :(

Got to disagree a little there, when i had mine RR i made 161bhp with just a miltek cat back smoothed box and green filter, But as you say the dyno lottery comes into play again.

def dyno lottery

but when you look at it from 3rd persons view...while the cat back might be less restrictive the stock downpipe and cat flow no more gasses than before..so its hard to see how there will be any benefit.

when i fitted the cat back it was all in the head and only the sound changed really.

but when i got the downpipe fitted...there was an obvious difference

just ordered cat back supersprint system as my back box has completely given up now and sounds like a tin of nails!

Have drove 2 type r's that came into work as part exchanges and liked the look of them and the inside was nice but wasnt overly convinced about the drive felt really slow compared with the cupra but never got to take it on any main roads to really push it so guess i didnt give it a fair go but getting older now and was thinking about getting a bigger slightly more senseable car! Oh well lets see how nice this supersprint exhaust sounds and hopefully it'll keep ammused for a while!
