I was thinking about this, but then the policy next year would start on the 1st Jan !! - not good after xmas & new year spends lol

Wish I would have got insured on a £50 fiesta when I was 17 !!!!

Ps - note to young drivers.......get your own insurance from the off !!!!

Don't worry, you're not alone, I did exactly the same for a couple of years. It's only now, 3 years later, that I'm finally paying the same amount as my mates!

Then I went and bought a group 17 car and it all went to pot....

Im with dl too - seem very good on lc/r's - just bite the bullet and start on your own - in the long run it pays

I was insured on an any driver under 21 policy in my Dads name with CIS but in the summer moved over to my own policy with Quinn Direct who accepted my 3 years named driver experience.

Im 21 and currently pay £500 fully comp for my 1.6 306. Would be looking at about £850 when i hopefully upgrade to an FR 150.

Im with bell.co.uk they where the best by far for me im 19 with no no claims and an accident and they qouted me £1100 TPFT for a 10 month bonus accelerator when everywhere else was atleast £2500 for the 12 months.

Ive always found Elephant to be the cheapest for me. Currently paying £370 fully comp. 30 yrs old 6yrs no claims.

And a useful little tip....

Always put someone older than yourself on as a named driver. I always put my mum on the insurance and it saves me about £70 a year!!!! And putting me on my girlfriends insurance saves her about £60. Its worth looking into!

Your 1st yrs insurance is always bad no matter what.... you will have to (and should) bite the bullet

technically.... you might be submitting a fraudulent claim if you're the main driver & you've put your mum down as that......

anyway... they take it based upon the age you are now, not at the end of the policy, but it doesn't drop much except for 21 & 25, along with the mandatory excess

Cheers guys !

Mork - understand about the technicalities - but prices are just silly for my area.

Got my renewal through the post £870 (me as named driver) - and even though the policy starts after my birthday, they have me down as being 24.....

I'm going to wait 2 weeks & give it a bash then to be doubly sure.

ps - just a tip, screentrade.co.uk give you £120 back via quidco if you go with them (site doesnt work with firefox, and just my luck that IE keeps freezing on me lol).

i heard a few problems with A flux, so i decided to go with Noel Dazely, very competitive and helpful. Especially as i am just going through a claim. No problems what so ever, 26 with 0 NCB, 6 points LC 2003 with Induction kit in Hampshire area cost £950 Fully comp, vey good as many other companies were quoting £ 1500 upwards. My reason for 0 NCB, simple, i never have car long enough or insurance as im in the Forces, always going away etc. But do try ND they are V good mate.

Entered details with Noel Dazely - cheers

Who are admiral & elephant underwritten by? They have the same site layout, and come with £'s of each other, just wondered if I could try another similar company?

Elephant, Admiral, Diamond and another couple are all part of the Admiral company. I think they use different underwriters though in some cases.

I went on moneysupermarket.com picked the best priced one and called them. Told them that Postoffice would beat their quote by £100, after 5 mins he came back and offered me £580, origional quote was £1100.

Turns out my policy is with HSBC bank. When you think you have the best quote, just give a few more a ring and tell them what the quote is, they will always go one better!!

Jesus, just called greenline, £467 over £100 cheaper, lucky my new policy does not start till 3rd March, I will get a refund and go with greenline. They are "modification friendly" also which will help in the long run.
