Hi i have only recently just bought a 2001 ibiza cupra, and am very happy with the car, but ever since i have had it the dash light flicker from bright to dull all the time which is quiet annoying it also effects my headlights, im not sure what this could be but if any of you could think of anything that would be great to try and sort this out!

cheers guys

hi i posted this little problem up up a while ago dashlights flickering in unison with the headlights some kind of "mobile disco i thought" but it only happened for a short time i gave the dash a bang with my fist and hey presto never had the problem again but seriously when i posted this problem no one on here had even heard of any thing i was describing but as with all these ibizas they will i have one of the first cupras of the line on an "x" plate so i as it seems are the bench mark for all the shitty problems these crappy cars have and i tell you every time i post a problem sooner or later some one else will have the same as

Mine does this if i turn the engine off but leave the lights on etc...........Very strange at first...almost disco effect. I have never tried to find the problem with mine its just part of its characteristics.:)

i never got it sorted on mine, like i said on my above post......it only ever happens if the engine is turned off, key in the ignition and the lights are turned on. i couldnt really justify spending £££'s on a tiny fault that only happens when im sat in the car waiting for the missus to come out of a shop.lol

Would be interesting to find out what is causing it though, its not as though it flashes once every second its really random......

last one i saw doing it just on the dash lights turned out to be the dimmer rheostat

the kid who had it bypassed it as a temp measure but left it as it was anyway been fine since

The rheostat is just a posh word for the dimmer switch for your dash illumination. Prise it out and bypass it and see if it stops. The dimmer switch controls the whole dash/centre console though so can't see it being this on your car.
