Milltek question for a TDi

 I am debating if I should buy a milltek exhaust for my Leon Cupra 150tdi. My only concern is that I have a 4motion cupra and the only avalible milltek exhaust in all of europe (they are produced every 3months) is a non resonated one.

I dont want anything too loud so I was wonder if anyone has had a non resonated milltek exhausted fitted to thier tdi and if it is not too loud.

Cheers.

Yea but you can put a silencer on it and get a nice clean sound. Hearing it first hand from Slicks car its sounds really good and not to in your face...

If you put a silencer on the back it`s not a mufflerectomy ie removing the muffler you have a normal after market exhaust ? The PD160 Cupra has one muffler on the stock system and so does my Audi.

Putting a bigger bore exhaust with a free flow back box on will give the car more power and depending on taste and how you have the exhaust made make it sound better, BUT a mufflerectomy is an exhaust with no muffler. Ectomy ; Function: noun combining form
Etymology: New Latin -ectomia, from Greek ektemnein to cut out, from ec-, ex- out + temnein to cut .A mufflerectomy is just another trendy thing people say they have on thier cars when in fact they don`t know what it is really or what it means. Anyone with an exhaust with a backbox / muffler ( USA ) on does not have a Mufflerectomy done to thier exhaust they have had an after market exhaust fitted the same as everyone else simple as that.

Thats OK mate hope you don`t think i was having a go at you as i wasn`t.:D
I just get fed up with hearing people on site saying they have this new trendy mufflerectomy fitted to their car which when they had it done they found out it sounded shite and drones like hell when driving on a motorway so they put a backbox on it and still rave on on how great a mufflerectomy is and how they have had it done to their exhaust.

Now you know and if Slick has had a backbox put on his exhaust tell him he is a muppet if he still thinks he has had a mufflerectomy and if he has a problem with it to PM devonmikeyboy or read this thread. :brucelee:
I am just quoting from memory and I may very well be wrong. He has posted what he has done in a post somewhere...

Here:

its a from the CAT back, the cat is still in there due to i dont want to much noise.... still has a roar on full chat and has a lovely whistle turbo noise on blipping the throttle.....

lol guys :)

I had this done but also had the cat removed at the same time - way TOO much noise. Now agreed, had i kept the cat but just had the backbox removed it would have been a true 'mufferlectomy' but in practice it was too loud so i had a very small silencer fitted to cut out the top end rasp.

With the benefit of hindsight and on hearing cars that HAVE a cat and NO backbox, they sound almost identical to mine - i love the sound that i've got although the way in which i got it was a little different to a mufflerectomy but it was this procedure that initially attracted me to it.

Of course the unseen benefit of a very small silencer at the back was that the Eibach ARB fitted without fouling the OE backbox so despite a wander around the doors i'm still happy with where i ended up :)

When people say it sounds as good as one of the 3 times as expensive main brand names, that just puts the icing on a very cheap cake.

Yep you got yourself a cheap exhaust but it`s not had a mufflerectomy because you have had the back box put back on.

Devonmikeyboy, is it worth getting a full miltek exhaust system then?

All comes down to personal taste/money etc. If you have the money and want piece of mind that you have a top quality exhaust under your car then get a Milltek. I bought a Milltek for my Audi since the car was always going to modded to the extreme so i wanted the best possible for it plus i got it for a very good price from AwesomeGTi when they where having a sale so it only worked out £70ish more then if i had a custom one made. I am quite lucky that i live near to Power Flow UK headquarters who have made some really high quality exhausts for some of my past cars , Pug 205 MI16 Dimma and 360bhp Nissan Pulsar GTIR .If you know of a good custom exhaust builder then you should have no problems. Don`t bother with sport cats on diesels as they are a waste of alot of money and diesels don`t need cats anyway. Saying that though removing the cat on anything other then a diesel running a hybrid turbo is a waste of time and you will feel no gain, i tried it myself with dyno before and after with my PD130 and PD160 Ibiza when they where stock ( which wasn`t very long) .

Ive got a mufflerectomy (yes a proper one - i know what a Muffler is and definitely what an Ectomy is!)

I love the raspiness which is mostly procuded by the 6x4 oval - a mate with the twin exit is much more refined. Sounds barely different on idle apart from the adorable turbo creep which makes a "wheeeeeee" noise - yum :p

It must have provided a tad more power and speedier spool up. The butt-dyno didnt rate it but the clutch started slipping a few days after! :D
