Moan about Ibiza doors and parking.

I find this too - the first stop point is way too far. I always end up holding the door to climb out, and multistories are a nightmare.
I nearly looked for a 5 door for this very reason, but then got my sense back.

My techniques for avoiding battered panels are:

- If a car park is quiet, park across 2 bays
- Park a distance away, as people always want to get as close as possible and will not park near your car
- Park next to two new/expensive cars
In multi stories, park next to a pillar/end wall/ramp and get as close to it as poss. folding in mirror if possible. This gives the car next to you a bit more room.

I thought this was just me. I don't mind the extra 30 seconds of walking, just as long as my car is safe from ignorant :censored: smacking thier doors into my car or scraping my side as they misjudge and try to swing in to a spot next to me.

I have noticed the problem of only too stops though. I am currently using a Pug 207 courtesy car and the doors are much easier as it has quite a few stopping points. Lighter doors too.

im terrible with choosing parking spaces it has to be next to something like a bush or a pillar or a wall an the car next to me has to be new and 4X4's and people carriers are a definate no no!! heard of peoples cars being vandalised for parking over 2 spaces so dont do that anymore

when i was a kid my parents taught me that when i get out of the car to put my hand over the edge of the doos so it doesnt hit the car next to us. iv done this by haqbit for years as my parents cared about their cars and other peoples too.

Yeah, I always hold the door but it takes a lot of effort with the Ibiza as it's always trying to swing out or swing closed on you and is a real pain when getting out with stuff (handbag, "lunchbox" etc etc ;))

I've developed some funny acrobatics as well for getting in as you have to pull the right leg in quick before the door closes on it.

It is a pretty big door and I have trouble getting my long legs in sometimes when in tight spaces, but I've mastered getting in and out without touching anything. Probably because I always hold the door frame when I get out, which stops me getting static shocks. That was a handy piece of advice I read in a mag once!

Unfortunately passenger door has a dent and scratch at the bottom corner at the rear when I gave a lift to someone for the first time, it swung open and hit a ludicrously high kerb, but these things happen.

Some stupid cow at work parked her Clio next to my car a few weeks ago, her drivers' side against my drivers' side. God knows how she got out, because I had to get in the passenger door! When there were plenty of spaces there as well, why did she have to do that?! :ban:

Another top tip: Don't park next to 4x4s or large people carriers. Chances are, they've got kids - and if it's bad enough telling your woman to be careful opening the door, imagine how hard it must be with kids!

I have kids and am constantly shouting "watch the doors !!" whenever i'm in a car park (not when i'm alone of course, people would think i'm a crazy person)
I ahve found that parking next to nicer cars (as long as the kids heed my former advice) or parking miles away does the trick but if you saw that state of my car you might not think it!!

Anyway I think it is mostly other people with other older cars that don't give a **** or think its funny. Take my auntie for example: 40yrs old with a 8 yr old Audi - you would have thought that she would have learned how big her doors are by now.
She pulls up on my drive and then comes in and says "whoops, I just opened my door into your car, is that alright?"

i was actually thinking this when i got the car compared to a saxo, but i guess the doors are longer?

ive put a couple of bits of rubber sleeving on the doors, at the widest point of opening

had LOADS and LOADS of white stone chips all over the front end wings bonnet and front bumper

the front bumper and the rear bumper had accident damage from the doghnut that owned it before so they have been repaired and resprayed and the other pannels all had scratches and dents so why not

while bumpers where off polished up my fmic and changed my gay boy horn for a meaty manly audi 1! all engine covers have been painted black and bonnet bra will be getting a special touch off mine and so will the floor mats (custom) will look mint for gti and the 24th.

also resprayed because when i did get a stone chi it showed up white which stands out like a biach on black but now ive got dark black primer under coat ;)

I find that putting my right hand on the edge of the door stops me damaging it :)

On the horn thing, £9.99 Ring low one horns do the trick, they're available from Halfords. All you need after that is a socket set, crimper and some connectors!

I've noticed this myself but never really thought about it. Several times i've let go of my door for it to swing all the way out to the fully open position under it's own weight. I keep thinking it's gonna snap off!
