Just a q for the cupra owners. How do you find the brakes. Do you agree with me that you have to pressed the pedal quite hard. Sometimes it feels like i am not goin to stop then i go into a slight skid??? Also How do I reset the ecu as I have just fitted the green filter and heard a reset of ecu sgud be done.

Cheers

i think i remember reading somewhere in a brochure about the braking system it determins if you are using it in an emergency .it will then apply more force . i just got my brake fluid change at the last service .Noticed straight away there was more bite nearly went through the windscreen .before it was changed i thought the brake didnt feel as good you had to put a bit more effort in at times

Faded my 18 mth old ones with vapour lock coming on while doing a banzai run down a hill. I always do 12 month fluid changes on other cars so this shows why. (The standard black rubber brake hoses absorb water into brake fluid .. and when you put a lot of heat into the brakes this water will start to boil.. hence vapour lock .. you can tell as the brakes get better when you pump them). If brakes are better if you pump them normally this means you have air in the system and they need bleeding. If the brakes when you are pushing them just still fade then you have cooked the pads and you may have done them in.. they will glaze and then you loose initial bite so the brakes feel terrible for initial bite.

So first thing is always to bleed brakes... you should change the fluid every 12 mths IMHO. Then decide what else is missing .. if you have cooked the pads then you can take a light level grind off the top of the pads (say 0.5-1mm) to get back to fresh material but this does have risks. Cooking causes the glue that holds the pad material together to come to the surface in larger amounts and hence glaze the pads. You will see cracks in the pads when this happens.

Brakes as stock are fine .. not bad for VAG .. except for the fact they obviously stuffed on some calipers they picked up off the shelf... and hence the offset is too great and you have to then fit stupid wheels to clear them that are a kerbing liability.. pity they did not engineer better offset and hence more sensible alloys. My old Golf 4 VR6 had better brakes, same alloy size and not the stupid offset.

Cant say Ive ever had any problems with mine at all. They seem to swallow trackdays pretty easily, and I use them as hard as I can.

Not got any fancy electronics apart from the factory basic ABS.

have always had grooved discs & uprated Pads and not had any complaints apart from being a bit sharp

ill let u know when i get mine repaired lol

1) un even pad wear on the front calipers,

2) warped front disc's

3) rear disc grind when i apply the brake tho there is LOADS of pad left so but have some dirt in between the pad adn disc (i aint technical so i most probably wrong)

4) the abs works a treat in the dry but in the wet u might aswell just get out the car and take a chance with getting run over... piss poor abs in the wet.

5) (tho this might be due to me having a problem witht eh brakes at the moment) turning and braking no matter how small will cause the car to lock up

6) the spongyness i have felt when i drive slow. like some one said jab at the brakes lol i find it a lot more responsive then

7) (since im complaining about them anyway) the brake dust is TERRIBLE i cant remove it from my alloys tho i am surprized the pads did last 26k lol

need to get it booked in to get my calipers cleaned and discs and pads al round again.

Smee

p.s i need 4 new tyres what do u all reccomend

Not driven a Cupra, but I find all the over Ibiza brakes to have a very 'progressive' feel compared to a lot of other cars. I've driven a new Leon a few times and nearly went through the windscreen the first few times a touched the brakes - very harsh in comparison.

The Ibiza brakes work well enough IMO, and my FR can certainly stop you quickly enough - but you have to ask it!!

Still not 100% convinced about the cupra brakes. You seem to have to give them alot of stick. I even tried an emergency stop and eneding up in a slight skid. Surely abs ebd etc shud have stopped this. Also the dealer has checked them and says they are fine????
