What mod next?

I seem to have been left a pretty significant sum of money as an inheritance that i wasn't expecting. Obviously a chunk of it will be put away for a house move in a year or so, but i was thinking of slicing a little off the top and treating myself.

That leaves me a dilemma.

Wheels or suspension?

What do i go for? How do i choose....?

The stock LCR wheels on mine aren't the best (one has a slight flat spot, and one is starting to corrode), but if i changed them for another set of 18's, would it look odd at stock height? Might i be best to slap some coilies on, then worry about wheels in the future?

Any input would be good really, but i do fancy the idea of some RS6's.....

I personally would go for suspension. I was thinking about changing the alloys, but after I cleaned the car recently, the wheel just look so good. Anyway I've had decided to lower the car with Eibach spring as the standard shock and dampers are extremely good.

I spoke Vince at Stealth Racing and the spring will cost £138.80, fitting £180.00, will lower the car by 30ml, you can get springs to lower the car more but unfortunately for me I'll never be able to put the car in the garage.

Look at the picture below - Not quiet as low as that but still, I can't wait...........

Looks sweet on stock rollers when its that low, but can't see it being too practical tbh. I park in a multi-story car park a lot and i can't imagine it would like the down ramps too much!

Depending on budget... I would go for the Koni FSD dampers and Eibach springs along with Neuspeed ARB's front and rear with an upper strut brace to polish things off. In that order too, in case money is limited.

My reason for this is I like the standard wheels, they suit the car and look good. And with the Brembo's to think about your choice of aftermarket wheels is limited and without ripping wheels off another VAG and using spacers, you're not left with a lot of options. Plus wheels only really give a visual improvement, whereas suspension will give a visual improvement (making the wheels look better in the arches!) but will also give an improvement in ride comfort (Koni's are said to ride better than stock) as well as improving handling and road feel, making the car more enjoyable to drive. And for me, that's the winner

im lowered about 35/40mm ish on my coilovers and its not as low as that!

id say that is a good 50/55mm!


that height looks sweet as but not practical at all!


edit: and oh yea lol.. i would not change the alloys, id get them refurbed if i was you, mine are brighter silver with a metal flake lacqure, look much better imo and with the rest of the money get some coilovers!

Been trying to decide the same thing myself recently, do i get a new set of wheels or do the suspension, i gave up on the wheels as all the sets i seen just wouldn't clear the brembo's and the originals are nice enough.

Trying to decide on what suspension setup to go for now, either koni fsd'd and eibach springs, or a set of coilovers possibly kw variant 1

Having seen some 19" RS6's for sale, with spacers, does anyone have a pic of an LCR on stock suspension but wearing 19's? Wondering if it looks too high?

My only benefit with the wheels is that i can sell mine on (they're all refurbishable easy enough, not that bad at all) and get a chunk of the money back to then drop into suspension in the future, whereas, if i do suspension, i still need to buy 2 new tyres......

Of course it wouldn't be that low, photoshop! Just showing a sort of example of what it would look like. Still if it was it would look awesome!
Mind you your right, wouldn't be practical.

Myself and Vince (Stealth) were talking about the Koni FSD's as well but he ashored me other than the springs the standard set up on the later model Cupra R's are as good as they get. That's why I am just going for the springs (Koni's can alway be added later if need be).

I'll post a couple of pic when I have done - early March.

Guy, I'll try and get a colour pic, not sure as I think at the time of doing the photoshop drop I think we saved it in black and white.

P.s I would go for the suspension and get the wheels re-conditioned.

Yep LCR alloys are real poor Quality...but dont get new wheels...go get a new silver finish on them.
They will look even bigger!
Thats what im planning (same finish as Kahn RSR!)

I have H&R Collies that are lowered 30mm all round on the LCR & have very little trouble with them over s.bumps ect..
Its a real good piece of kit made for the LCR & ride is class.
Its well damped, better than O,E but comfortable! Class!

Im going to add ARB's & bits to compliment the ride further,
I think you should spend money on a good Suspension Set-up

MK2 GTI - Supersport Coilies - Too hard IMO, and didn't last long. Were cheap though

Corrado - Jamex springs on stock shocks - Looked great, was a silly idea really as it was bouncy as hell

MK3 VR - On cheap fixed height/damping shocks and springs when i got it - not a bad ride though really

So, whats the score now. FK Highsports seem a good price, but are they any good? Would i be better off spending more and getting the FSD's and Eibach set-up, or would i regret not being able to fine tune the height?

Any one got pics of theirs on whatever kits they're running?

If you want to be able to adjust the height, then coilovers are your only option really. They will be harder than any other option though, but it's personal preference if you think they are 'too hard'... some people say coilovers are, others say they are fine.

The Koni/Eibach combo will lower by a fixed amount and a subtle amount at that. You wont be able to adjust them. But you will benefit from improved ride comfort and improved handling.

It's up to you to decide what your priorities are really and what you want from your money

On my H&R Collies, set at 30mm but can go as low as 60mm all round, (that will be daft)!
I think once you know what height you want, stick to it.
To be honest adjustable height offers flexibility however doubt you will use it that often -if at all.

Adj damping- are you really going to use it much, once set correctly, doubt you will change settings......just my opinions though!

FK Silverlines about 35/40mm lower...

car handles soooooooo much better and gets the power down a lot better!

ride is better quality in a way than expected imo... as good as oe ride, maybe less crashy in a way, but dont get me wrong, it is stiffer so on bad roads u can feel everything (tho i think on oe suspension u could too!) but one thing that is worse is bumps/humps at speed on motorways etc... but that is always to be expected on lowered cars imo!

over all its a better ride than i was expecting so im happy lol

ps. do a search on my reviews from when i first fitted it over a year ago, as i think i was one of the first ppl on scn who lowered their LCR, i dont think my opinion has changed... still happy!

If you're seriously thinking about 19's - make sure you get some that are light. Some of them weigh an absolute ton (not literally, obviously) and ride comfort is certainly degraded with larger wheels/smaller tyre profile.
