New speakers run off an amp?

Hey dudes,

The standard system is pretty crap, but I don't want to lose the cd changer.

I've already got a two channel amp as I used to run a sub off it (don't want to take up the boot space with a sub anymore!) so if I replaced all the standard speakers with good ones and ran the fronts off the amp, will I get a half decent sound?

Has anyone done this? If so, what speakers did you go for?

Anybody with any further suggestions?

Basically don't want to spend a lot of money as this is a job I won't be able to do myself so I'll have to pay to have it installed, so won't to keep the costs of the equipment down (but I do want to use good speakers)

Lemme know what you all think!

Cheers!

Have to replace the standard HU. Need to check the ICE section on this really, but IIRC...If you go for a Pioneer HU, someone somewhere does sell a cable so you can use the standard CD player....

The best solution really is to change the head unit.

You could use the amp, though, if you want - what model is it?

You would probably need a line to RCA converter if your amp doesn't have line in connections. Only 10 quid tho.

Someone did find a cable which a pioneer HU would work with the OEM cd changer. Never got round to ordering one and can't find the thread.

But in general, you can't use the OEM CD changer with an after market HU. Most people go for DVD MP3 HU's or a HU with an iPod input.

I changed headunit to an Alpine 9812RB, mainlt as i already had the ipod interface. No reason why you can't put a different changer in though i wouldn't have thought. I have a pair of Infinity reference components to put in the front holes, but at the moment haven't got round to it!

The Pioneer HU I got in mine makes the standards sound a lit better, but will be changing the comps at a later date....Need to add a sub though, but not a chavvy loud as i can "innit" mate sub....
