Exhaust shine

Looking for a bit of advice. Tip of my exhaust is black and im struggling to get it off. Any tips on how to get it shining again?

I use Autosol - available almost anywhere. Halfords do it, but any decent motor store should stock it.

Autosol is the best thing I've found for polishing any metal surface! Very easy to get good quality results quickly

My dad's been using it for as long as I remember. I used to use it on my bike wheels as a kid.

Here's the stuff:

you only need a little bit too, so it'll last for ages.

Just be a little careful, as I think that it contains a slight abrasive. There are other metal polishes out on the market but i'm not sure what its called. Have a look in the car detailing section.........

another recommendation for autosol....using it since the 70's(!). It may be ever so slightly abrasive, but I think you'll find most are. Besides which I don't think there will be a danger of wearing out your exhaust through polishing....

Ive used a stuff called barkeepers polish if I remember that was what it was called-worked a treat-and available in the cleaning aisle in any good supermarket(and some rubbish ones too)

Meguiars do a good metal polish too that's worth a look.

Autosol is pants for removing burnt on dirt, not abrasive enough, use Peek from Halfrauds.

Once it is clean use the Maguires to keep it shining/build up a luster.

Don't forget to do inside the pipes!!

In extreme cases I've used a dab of wonder wheels (it was close to hand) to remove any stubborn marks and then finished with autosol... you could always rub it down with wet & dry and then polish it for good results...

My pipe isn't too bad but this thread has got me thinking it could be better - will go and have a play tomorrow and post my results

i did on the inside of the exhaust on my elise, I went though the anti resinating baffle thing

i use autoglym metal polish on mine. you can feel it is quite abrasive but i go over the tailpipe again with some normal polish afterwards too!

Another vote for wonderwheels! Can be brilliant stuff on burnt on residues. Howeverm I normally just use a kitchen sponge with a brillo top.

Brillo works well to get crap off, but often leaves light marks on it. That's where something like the Meg's stuff comes in handy to get it back to a shiny surface again.

mine's that bad I;ve thought about using a dremmel and a polishing disc to get the 'cr@p' off and then buf it up with metal polish....
