Hi toejam237,

it sure has one -- called GALA in German, translates into speed dependant loudness adaption.
But be aware that there is a software bug with the early models:
The setting (LOW/MID/HIGH) is lost every time you turn ignition off ... no way to circumvent this. You have to readjust the setting each time you start the engine.
To find out about the sw-release of your headunit:

switch radio on => radio/fm mode => press AUDIO for approx. 3 seconds
... the display will show
CD2-SWCode8250.jpg

while the "buggy" CD1/CD2 (5P? 035 152) show a version below "0035" ...

... the CD2+MP3/CD3 (5P? 035 186) do work properly with versions above "0014" ... though there is another problem with the FADE-option, which is reported to be solved with release "0017" and above.

We in Germany managed to get SEAT into changing all faulty headunits ... so maybe there is a chance for you to achieve the same if affected.

greets ... Klaus

Altea same as Toledo, if you push "prog" then use bottom buttons and press "SCV" it wil show up a menu to select speed sensitvie off, low, mid and high, use the left and right select buttons to navigate to your choice, personally low or mid do the job well.

Service mode shows the Signal strength in regards to the stereo level (Q: Stereo: LEV69) this value changes. Anything else this screen can show us, or let us carryout?

On the read out of the service menu, mine is a 2004 Altea but I did get the radio changed in 2005, it's not MP3 so it's the top ones of Klawit's list and it's software release 28. I can cope with it, it works fine. I don't use the SCV since I prefer to adjust the volume myself rather than hearing it change by itself which I've found unpredictable in other cars.

The screen was much the same as Klawit's except mine said Capital [don't listen to that mind you] and signal strength of 50, Klawit's must be close to a WDR 3 transmitter. BTW Klawit I like NDR NordWest Radio myselfuse to be better when it was Radio Bremen :).

SCV just monitors the background noise and increases the volume accordingly as I understand it toejam237, won't be effected by speed. You get the lag which is what I recall those settings are, hence the need to take control of the volume yourself. You crank it up when a good bit comes on in anycase.

it takes a while i thought to really notice the auto vol changes.... dont mind it, mid works fine for me. i have radio one at sig strength 65-69 on radio1, and that is on the border of N.Ireland/ROI!! just depends really. is it not a combinatino of the two, background noise and speed, as i've noticed while hitting 40, 60 etc that it tended to increase????

ok guys ... couple of questions to answer:

- the SCV setting only adjusts in tiers of velocity: when driving ~40 mph / ~ 65 mph / ~90 mph (tried to figure out our km thresholds) ... there is no surrounding noises involved (as there's definitely no special micro for that).

- I myself prefer the MID setting as well ... especially as my CD2+MP3 (the one on the above picture) lacks a little the fine adjusting when it comes to popping up the volume ... above level 10 it's gaining too much laudness with each scale.

- sorry, thou the CNT in the display might be counting something (how often the menu itsself was invoked?), it's more or less guessing so far on our side.

- although not explicitly asked, but the mp3 feature can't be upgraded in CD1/CD2 headunits ... as SEAT dealers neither have any equipment nor the license to do so, the unit has to be sent to the manufacturer (BLAUPUNKT).

that's all for now ...

Thanks for that it's velocity then, mind you I still prefer to keep mine on manual and twig the volume how I like it. I listen to MDs, I go, "I like this track" and turn it up, skips tracks, I don't like this etc and so forth. Speach radio you might be more happy to use the SVC.

It still sounds a bit basic to me that you tell your radio to turn up the volume a bit [unspecified amount] when it gets to either 40, 65 and 90 MPH... hmmm. You got road surfice and other variables to consider..... hence I have it off :).

I had the same problem on my Toledo, where the SVC setting would be lost each time the ignition was switched off.
someone on here confirmed that it was a fault with a batch of radios. I printed the relevant thread and took it to my dealer. Result: the radio was replaced under warranty and I have not had any problem since.

from experience, the volume increases with speed, not background noise. Seems to increase at around 40mph, 60mph and 80mph.

Hi,
I have the New Leon as a company vehicle just checked & my s/w version shows 00006 but the speed dependent volume works fine but what is the "FADE-option" problem you mention & does it affect Leon's?

Hi leedebs,

sorry ... but I don't have any information on the LEON-headunits as well as on the brandnew ALTEA-CDs which now all come along with the MP3 as a standard option ... so they might have changed the SW-releases in general.

Okay thanks Klaus
Out of interest what was the problem on the Altea HU with regards to the fade?

you're welcome, leedebs

The FADE problem was an intermittent vanishing of the FADE option itself.

Pressing AUTO you expect the complete setting of buttons ... just like that:

CD2_mit_FADE9183.jpg

... but sometimes - and you never could tell when - there was the far most right option missing ...

CD2_ohne_FADE3875.jpg

It was a bearable fault, as I programmed my sound settings to reflect different fade values ... and after exactly 350 days !! since I first complained, the exchange headunit was fitted ... and no problems since.
