VT5 can hold 2.2 constant and 2.6 peak?????? :-o
I wouldn't like to see the intake temps tho,,, pay attention to them if you raise the boost, with such sky high pressures guess you can start thinking of a charge cooler.

btw, on normal daily driving do you use just diesel, diesel+lpg, diesel+nos, coal+nos,,, or what?

To tell the truth you never notice any lag as the power band is so smooth. You can realy feel the turbo pulling by 2500rpm and by 3700rpm i have 300+bhp which holds all the way to 5700rpm.

Intake temps peaked at 890 C with 50 bhp NOS shot and went down to a peak of 840 C with 150 bhp NOS nozzle. EGT gauge is a must with this sort of setup. If anyone knows of a knock sensor that i could fit to my engine it would be very helpful as that is another thing i am very careful about. Hope to get water/methonal injection fitted sometime this year to lower EGT temp. On my normal drive to and from work diesel+propane is enough as it only takes me about 6 minutes to get to work most of which are country lanes so don`t need stupid lots of power even at 3am.

@ basstard I really must learn to read :doh: Just reread what you posted and you where on about intake temps not EGT temps :redface: . That is also taken care of as i have pre FMIC temp and intake temps monitored on a duel SPA gauage.

Mickey, there's loads of knock sensors out there [I am an automation engineer so I know] I just can't figure out how you can use one since IIRC these sensors need to be screwed into the block,,, and then you need some sort of computer to send the signal to,,, your ecu, being for a diesel car, hasn't an input for a knock sensor I guess and it's not like you can add a sensor to the system cos 1st you'd need a pin [and related circuit part] to connect it to on the ecu and then a software to take account of it,,,

this is unless you just want the sensor just to be connected to, say, a light on the dash,,,

To be honest i am not a fan of gauges and the less i have in the car the better. I only keep two gauges permanently wired in and showing in the car which are my duel SPA EGT/boost gauge and SPA duel oil pressure/temp gauge. I had had lots of sensors fitted around the engine for stuff but are only wired up to gauges when a new mod is added so i can try to get the best power possible without damaging my engine. What knock sensor can i fit just so as i have a light to come on when it happens? I know of lots of knock sensors but have not got my head around how to make one work on my car.

what's wron with that on the link you posted??

You just need to find a place where to put it on the engine and tune it to the right frequency of the knock,,, [and I don't have a clue on how to do this really]

then you wire it to a light on the dash [maybe you'll need a small circuit to adapt the voltage] and that's about it,,, not?

Looking at the regs I could run a TDI in the up to 1400 cc production class provided that the fuel is 100% diesel. I am looking at either a Leon FR TDI or even waiting for the TT when it comes out.

What sort of power do you reckon is realistic staying on just diesel fuel.

Presumably the DSG version could not stand too much tuning?

Pardon me if I missed the info, but did you have to change the inter-cooler?

Would be interested to talk to you directly to hear your thoughts on tuning for hill climbing.

Power on a 1.9PD with just diesel is about 250/260bhp with uprated injectors. My power with just diesel at the moment is 248bhp but that is with stock injectors, i have been trying to get some custom injectors made but the company i used messed me about then "lost" my original injectors so trying a different company. Hope to have about 280bhp with uprated injectors. No i did not have to change my intercooler Audi driver mag got that wrong. There is an Audi TT with a diesel engine in already running a 1.9PD engine with a VT5 turbo in England.

How do you run a 1896cc TDI in the up to 1400cc category? That's interesting if you can get away with that. Pop down to Dawlish sometime if you want a look at / run out in mine. I'm going to be somewhere around 270/280bhp soon - providing the propane and NOS do what they need to. :)

How do you run a 1896cc TDI in the up to 1400cc category?

it's all to do with multipliers for tdi's & turbo's

eg: for equivelant n/a you would multiply capacity by 1.4 for a petrol turbo

For a Diesel turbo you multiply by 0.7 (though this might change with reg's)

For the others - the hillclimb regs for the SW championship are that the diesel capacity is multiplied by 0.7 - but must be straight diesel.

BTW the attraction of the new TT i(when and if it goes diesel) s that it is lighter, better balanced and has a lower CoG.

Until somebody finds a way to remove the DPF without the ECU going into limp mode you are basically screwed when it comes to getting serious power from that engine other then having a 200bhp-ish remap. There are no uprated injectors on the market yet for that engine and believe me it`s a real pain in the ass and bloody expensive to try and get a set of custom injectors made when nobody has ever done them before.

There's the dpf problem [altho ben says his tuner has removed one,,, :shrug: ] but more than that there's the injectors problem: we're talking piezo here and I don't think there's someone out there that can develop an uprated piezo injector without spending a fortune [and selling it to an even bigger fortune],,,

IMHO a 140hp 2.0 would be much easier/cheaper to tune,,, mind you the difference between the two engines are basically the dpf and the injectors afaik,,, once you get some serious injectors for the 140 you're basically well over the 170 potential,,, my 2p,,,
