TDI MOT's with the EGR turned down

Hi all,

Quick question, has anyone recently had their non-pd TDI 110 MOT'd with the EGR turned down ?

My MOT is booked for tomorrow, and I am unsure whether the EGR will need setting back to defaults for the test ?

Like most TDI owners I thought it was a good idea to turn down the EGR using Vagcom to reduce soot.

A quick search of the forums reveals that some cars have passed MOT's with the EGR turned down, but their is no definitive answer.

The MOT station that I am using has new shiney emissions kit, so I need to be sure that the Noex stuff that is increased when the EGR is turned down won't fail the test..

Access to Vagcom to get it adjusted is a problem at the moment !

Ta.

Mine BEAT a Standard Passat 130's emissions and it had CC Phase 2 and a minimum EGR when JBS had it MOT'd. All they test on diesels is smoke output so it probably helps.

Id always give my car a bit of a ragging though just before the MOT - make sure its nice and warm and theres no soot stuck in the exhaust :)

Cheers lads...

Sounds like I don't need to worry then.

Just been out in the cold and wet and removed the LED sidelights, as wasn't sure if they passable.
Never really liked them anyway !

Fingers crossed then..

EGR is there to reduce NOx emissions at medium power levels. They'd need a rolling road and expensive test gear to test it, and NOx emissions aren't part of the MOT in any case. Removing or turning down the EGR will improve the particulate emissions overall, as while the EGR reduces NOx it increases soot :-o

I needn't of worried, sailed through the MOT no problem.

All they did for the emissions, is insert a probe up the exhaust, start the machine which took a reference measurement, then slowly increase the rev's to nearly max. The machine registered 0.46 and when I asked they said the limit was 3.0.
Not sure what they were measuring (smoke ??) but well within limits.

The jobs a good un, another 12 months for the old Tolly..

I think it's CO2 possibly, or a concoction of other stuff? Petrols do push a lot more out which is why they generally fail the MOT with no cat. TDIs are a different matter though.
