Major boost issues

Hello everybody,

I have just joined these boards, and I am hoping that somebody may be able to give me some advice.

I have a 01 cupra with a AMD remap (done 2004) and DV, making around 200BHP. I have had the car since 02, and it now has 38K miles on the clock.

Since before the remap my car occasionally overboosted, but since the remap the frequency increased.

I then found out about the N75, and changed that, which temporarily cured the problem. I then bought a N75J in about Nov last year, and am once again having major problems.

Anybody know why this is happening?

I am at my wits end.

Was the N75 working fine up until you changed to the J? if it was id swap it back to the normal N75 as im sure ive seen on here that the J can cause problems.

Overboosting still the Issue? Actuator ever been tampered with? Might be worth checking that. I assume it was ok with the J type until recently as that would be the obvious thing to change otherwise?

My second N75 started playing up after a year, thats why Iput the N75 J in. This is allegedly the one you are supposed to use for tuned motors.

Also forgot to mention in my previous post that I have found that for some strange reason it is less likely to overboost (though it does occasionally) when I have the TCS turned off.

What is the actuator???

I think most people on here with a re-mapped car are running the normal N75, i am for certain, and with no problems! Where abouts are you based mate? might be someone in your area willing to let you try there N75, as for the actuator i think you can adjust it to give more boost and its quite easily adjusted i think and can have bad results if not done properly/correctly, but as for where it is some one else should be able to sort you out on that!

I am on the Isle of Wight, think there are only a couple of Cupras around here. Also not really great (as far as I know) for tuning expertise.

In terms of the actuator, I believe you can get an adjustable boost valve, but my car does not have one, the boost is entirely controlled by the ECU, but I still had this problem prior to the remap.

I am suspicious that there may be a leak somewhere.

What is the TIP that I have seen mentioned on these boards, and where can I get one.

I had one fitted to my car last weekend by M0rk, TIP = turbo Intake pipe its alot less restrictive compared to the standard one hence better airflow equeling more power! Now ive seen how they are fitted i wouldnt say its a major job just abit fidderly, And in our case abit of a job to get it over the seal on the turbo!

i will be very surprised if its the turbo unit...is there any blue smoke coming out exhaust etc??

Leaks from all / any air pipe. MAF maybe goosed, faulty DV as posted earlier by someone, Knacked N75. Get these all changed and checked
You can check the MAF by unplugging it and if car pulls better you need a new MAF
Ensure DV is well oiled and not a Bosch!
If your car is cold and will fast idle you could disconnect the
-ve battery for 5 minutes, reconnect it and turn ignition key for 30 secs( do not start it) then turn back off,this will re-align throttle body and restore all values. You may get the old car temporarily but you really need VAG-COM. ( or sfind someone with it )

No smoke at all, also does not use oil.

Have tried standard DV, AMD DV and another make (don't remember the name, but the fittings weren't great) currently on the AMD one, which is all aluminuim.

MAF? Is that the air mass meter? If so have had replacements before, but no joy/

I am considering changing the TIP and all pipework now. Anybody know of kits that I can get with all necessary pipe?

You`ll be able to get all your piping (if you mean vac pipes etc...) from the forge site, The only way i can see it being your tip losing you boost would be if its slipped off at either end (have you checked the clips?) Or got a hole in it from somthing. A Forge TIP is a nice mod anyway as its less restrictive than the standard part.

Edit: Like shytot said try the MAF trick for peace of mind, If it isnt that least thats one thing you can rule out.

Is it possible for tips / pipe work to collapse inwards under vacuum due to loss of structural integrity??
