minimum pad & disk thickness on LCR

Guys,

Does anyone know the minimum thickness for the front brake discs and pads on the LCR ?!?

Was having a look yesterday when cleaning the car, and it looks like mine are getting low.

Also looks like Pete fitted Ibiza pads, as there's no wear indicator on there at the mo, and there's a 'bodge' to fool the ECU

Reckon I've got about 3mm pad wear left.... not too sure on the discs.

Quite a few of the popular aftermarket pads don't come with wear sensors so I wouldn't worry about that too much

Doesn't bother me, as I was 99% sure Pete had done it anyway, hence me having a look just to double check !!!

Tried having a look at the discs on the car, but the outside edge is a little too rusty to make out anything !!!

Visual check with the wheel off should show you how much 'meat' you have left, there is usually a groove down the centre of the pad which helps (not full depth)

LCR pads are quite thin as you can see from the photo, be warned the pads don't wear evenly, not unknown to be down to the metal one side and still have 1-2mm the other side

only checked the passenger side one properly, and both pads are about 3mm.

will check the drivers side ones at the weekend.....

Make sure you use a micrometer as verniers will not reach over the outer lip on the disc

that's the ones... just said vernier, but knew I needed the other type !!! lol

Yeah, my driver's side have always worn faster (about 4-5 sets now, always OE kit).

The pads are very thin as new, from memory only 6mm. My verniers (my micrometer doesn't either, but I can't remember why) don't fit over the lip on the disk, so I use either the lip itself to judge or something like two coins (measure the disk and the coins together, then the coins on their own and take one from the other...).

So long as you dont get metal rubbing on the discs scratching them to you will be ok......hahaha gotta get your money's worth!
with regard to the disk...you may find the thinner they get the more likely they are to warp and you will have a nasty vibration on braking!

this is more likely to happen when stopping at a junction for a while after allowing brakes to heat up...when discs are thin they cool quickly and the hot pads squeezing on to one part of the disc (slight expansion i guess) will contribute to warping....i read that somewhere...

That's true regardless of the state of your discs and pads... if you heat them up (say, after slowing coming off a motorway) and sit in traffic with your foot on the brake, you risk warping the discs pretty quick.
