My Leon Cupra 150tdi clutch problems?

This is my first post so please feel free to take the mick out me ha ha! Anyway I bought an '03 Leon Cupra TDI in black with 30K on the clock and firstly Id like to say its awsome (bearing in mind I had a Xsara 90bhp HDI before!!) However when I pull away in first from stationary I sometimes get 'vibration'. The best way to describe it is it feels as though the traction control is kicking in but i know its not that as it happens when just pulling away normally (and the traction lights dont turn on). Anyway i dont know if my clutch is on its way out but it changes gear really smooth though. But the clutch bites really sharply as well but hopefully im worrying about nowt but it would be good to hear some1s opinion. But they are amazing cars......quicker than my mates petrol cupra I would say :p

It sounds as if your DMF is on the way out rather than knackered if this is only happening in first gear. Test this for yourself by travelling on the motorway at 50 in top gear, then accelerate to 70 and if you get a vibration, your Dual Mass Flywheel is on it's way.
Where did you buy the car from? If you bought it from a Seat Dealers, your DMF should be covered under the Seat used car warranty.

Is it still under warranty? If so the DMF is covered but the clutch assembly is not - new DMF is around £300 and fitting is about £200.

If you're going to keep the car, you're better off going for a full sachs clutch whilst it's in bits.

cheers for the advice. when i bought the car i didnt get the warranty with it (all because ive probabl spent £800ish on them over various cars in the past and not got anything back!!!), fcuk wish i had now!!(unless theres someway i can recoup something back off the stealer cos ive only had the car since 20/11/06??) il try the 50-70 test and see if ive still got vibration and take it from there. By the way bought it from SEAT SG Petch in Durham

I tried the 50-70 test and did get a little vibration but not that noticable, also i dont know if this matters but it has been 'vibrating' in 1st gear since i bought the car and ive done over 3000 miles in it since i got it so if the dmf was on its way out how much longer will i get out of it and also would it of lasted over 3000 miles so far if this is the problem?

Have another test. Take off in second gear, see if it's still there.

:roflmao: are you trying to make this guy fook his clutch? telling him to do a second gear launch is hardly the best advice you could have given is it?

I have the uprated sachs kit in my pd130 and still have the dmf, and yep, i do get vibration when accelerating below 2k rpm, but hey, i dont care, if it goes it goes

i got same car as e1370 and get no vibration doing a 50-70 dash in top or 5th. do get some if in top at 35ish, but expected as revs so low and once going it is all ok
got 38000 on an 04, just in case it helps at all and i'm on original clutch and dmf as well

If you bought it from a Seat dealership surely it will have a warranty ? If not you could go back to them under the sale of goods act if its not long since you bought it. Try them - they might be OK. You could also speak to Seat UK about it.

Where are you based ?

You reckon by doing one second gear start, that his clutch will break? You must have felt uneasy about the standard clutch and therefore forked out shed loads of money on something a tad bit stronger ;) .
Speak to Allard's, and ask about there Golf race car. Doesn't have a first gear, I guess he doesn't know what he's doing. ;)

well just to update I went to stealers and they took a look and said there was nowt wrong?!?!? Anyway is there anyway the person that owned it before me replaced the standard part that makes it 'bite' really quickly? i only ask this cos when i bought it it had a miltek stainless exhaust on and prob remapped so god knows what else is modified on it?

I know allards well, as i have the VT2 hybrid turbo on my car, and have also got them a contact to sell Sachs race clutches. I myself work for sachs so an uprated organic clutch cost me peanuts compared to the likes of JBS etc etc. I did do a 2nd gear launch when i had my standard clutch in and it slipped, hence why the next day i got it replaced with my nice cheap uprated one.

well i know this is 2 years down the line but i thought if anyone else is having similar problems this may help/eleviate there fears!!
turned out that it was a paddle clutch that was fitted and thats why it was vibrating from pulling away, anyway ive had the clutch and flywheel replaced by a mate of a mate and (cost £500 which i dont think was bad) and had that on for about 10K miles now and its much nicer to drive as well.
