Ok dudes the indicators on my 03 LCR have gone mental....

If I press the hazard switch they work fine but if I click the indicator stalk up or down I get nowt. No flashing on the dash just a horrendous buzzing/scratching noise from behind the hazard warning switch!

Help! :(

i saw a guide once, i think on vwvortex, the guide was modifying the unit so you can use LED indicator bulbs - basically the guide was modifying the indicator module so they don't flash fast even if a bulb is burnt.

The guide shows how to remove the unit... search for indicator LED or something like that ... i can't remember anything else, sorry

my indicators are going a bit mad as well at the moment, sometimes work and then quick flashing and normal flashing and sometimes you get no flashing on the dash and try again and you do.

hazards are slightly better but sometimes flash a little out of rythm and fast, it isnt the bulbs my diagnosis is the relay so going to order a new relay (hazard switch?) from seat tomorrow.

There seems to be a spate of this at the moment - i've posted the same advice on three different threads now.

Your hazard flasher relay has died. It's about £35 for the switch/relay unit in the centre of your dashboard. It's a modified part from the original one - which was not up to the job and was actually subject to a recall in the US.

If the relay flashes at double speed - it means that a bulb has died. If it goes very fast or random then the relay has died.

The part number is in the other threads.

Guys,

I've had the same problem lately but I found a fix. If your indicators are flashing twice as fast as they should it's a warning that you have a bulb out. I found that my front indicator was working then not. I took it out today, gave the contacts a clean and a spray with WD40, put it all back together and it's fine now :)

i think on another thread it was stated that the problem you had is also quite common that the contacts lose their connection slightly and cause the indicators to flash quickly.

if its the relay the indicators will work, flash quickly or not work at all :)

Indicators

Ok, have a problem with my indicators too...

They work fine when I switch the hazards on but not when I indicate left /right.

Something wrong with the indicator stalk perhaps??

Any suggestions / advice on fixing?

Any help much appreciated....

ignore hazards for now

activate left or right one at a time and check the 3 bulbs each side are ALL working properly

if they are and its still going crazy its most likely the relay

But i dont get any sound coming from behind the hazard switch.

That does sound like a relay going wrong but mine is just silent.

I'd like to think mine will just go away by itself but that might be a bit hopeful.

Kind of need my indicators now, for indicating....

:(

When the hazards are on, all bulbs work fine.

When the hazards are off but I am indicating left / right, I get nothing. No lights inside or out.

supply from or the indicator switch itself is worth a test with a multimeter then

I'd start with replacing the hazard switch/relay assembly. They are all off the same fuse, so if one works but the other doesn't then it sounds like the relay. If that doesn't work then try replacing the column stalk.

Simon.

Thanks for the advice.

Replaced the hazard relay and now the indicators work a treat.
