Gauge wiring query!

Just a quick one.

Got a boost gauge that l'm going to fit into a CupraR twin holder that goes under the centre console, you know the one.
So l want to wire it in so the back light comes on the with the rest of the dash lights.

Can l use an illumination wire off of the cigarette lighter, seeing as it's right where the gauge is going to be?

As have only really read up on people using the wires behind the light controls.

Just seems like a lot of hassle to route the wires all the way through the dash to get to this block?

Not sure l'm really fussed about being able to dim it with the dash lights, as l always have them turned up to there brightest anyway.

if you had it wired to your cig lighter - would that mean your gauges would constantly be on - flat battery overnight?

I'd imagine it would be if you wired it to the live yeah.

But would be wiring it up to the Illumination live?? Thus only giving it power when the dash lights come on which is what would light up the ring around the cigarette lighter.

To get your gauges to fit flush you will also have to cut the bottom out of the original cubby hole to clear the back of the gauges, it's better to now know than when you've think you have nearly finished.

Is that with your wires/boost signal pipes connected?
Mine fitted without any connections but as soon as you plugged things in etc it wouldn't fit.

That's with the vac pipe connected and wires just left hanging ready to be wired up.

Doesn't the cigarette light change with the dimmer?
