60k Service misunderstanding!

Hey folks!

So I took my car for its 60k Service today @ SEAT.

Well... I had been quoted £340 ALL IN for the following;

* 60K Service
* New Water Pump
* New Cambelt & Tensioners

Which I thought was a good price, considering it was a main dealers, I was told the service alone was £155.

Anyway, I get there this morning, and its now all of a sudden £511! It seems I obviously misheard (not true!) but the service was £155, and cambelt such and such price, which on the calculator added up to £495 (not sure how they got 511). So they told me £495.

Well, as I am not working at the moment unfortunately, but even if I was I dont think id pay that!

I told them to ignore the pump & belt, and just do the service for £155.

Im annoyed though, as I ASKED at the time on the phone "Is that £340 for the cambelt plus £155 for the service?" and got "No its £340 all together".

It was the same person today, but to be honest, arguing with them wouldnt get me anywhere and I couldnt be bothered for hassle.

They apparantly checked the belt, and said it only needs checking and not doing until 120k...

I'd shop around. I've recently had a service which cost me £150ish then asked about the cambelt and water pump change. Like you they quoted me £349 extra

I've rung a few SEAT dealers in the area and the lowest i got it down to was £219 for all parts and labour. got it booked in for the next few weeks

I had a similar issue, and argued like hell with the guy, and refused to pay. In the end, they knocked the price down to what I said that they'd qouted me.

Got home, and it turns out we were both wrong, but then i got it cheaper. Than at first, so thats a bonus.

seat had my car for the 60k service and quoted me to do the cambelt etc for a stupid price. I told them I was going to ring round to try and get it done cheaper but told them to carry on with the rest of the servicek and if they didn't hear from me in an hour to carry on with the cambelt.

I got a great quote from some cheapo garage so left a message with the seat receptionist that i didn't need it changing....needless to say when I went to pick up my car they had done the cambelt!! After much arguing (and embarrasing the poor receptionist) i only paid them what the cheap garage had asked for. result!

Just got back, service went fine, just a shame that price was misunderstood as I wanted to get the belts and stuff done too :(

Let off though, one of the service ladies was fit.

My Cambelt and water pump plus some sorting of the fusebox on the battery came to £340 - so I think they were overcharging a little bit.

This was at Portsmouth SEAT

Sorry to here about your probs.
What i do is take it to a local VW+Audi garage that way it's cheaper but still has a recognizable stamp in the book, which any one who knows anything about VAG cars will see.
