Got beat by a Mk4 Tdi....lol

Popped up the Pod yesterday ( it was Tres quiet) so well worth a day up there, only went as mty mates were taking there bikes up there, one of the guys with us got a 9.906 qtr mile on his near standard K6 GSXR 1000 but he is an amazing rider.

Anyway as it was empty first thing, and only 4 odd cars int he queue i got a quick 5 runs in the Mini to judge whatr its like in standard guise. and was happy as consistently got 15.8, in fact 5 runs in total and first 2 were 15.9 and the last 3 were 15.8, so least i was consistent.

Anyway back to topic, last 2 runs i got pooped on by a bloody Tdi FR, was remapped, sorry i can't remember your name, but i got some ribbing from my mates for that.

looking at the time slips it is obvious where the TDi had the edge, and thats on the 60ft times, off the mark the Tdi was a lot quicker and as i always said they launch so easily off the line with very little fuss.

But anyhoo, i was happy about it , just a bit ironic that it turned out to be a platinum ibiza FR Tdi seeing as thats what i had before.

in defence though, it did have more BHP than me and twice the amount of torque.

Still, in on wednesday for Race spec mainifold and cat and GTT 230+ coversion in May to avoid any future embarassment against a TDi

surely you should know 1/4 mile times of a mapped fr? and platinum grey ones are slightly faster than the rest

What is the technique to get the dervs off the line? My 60ft has always been poo.

I just slipped my clutch off the line, brought the clutch out slow with T/C off and managed a 2.19 sec 60ft with a 92mph terminal and a 14.8 time.

that was with the standard SMIC aswell.

I had a 2.2s 60ft time which i think is pretty good.

I left TCS on but it never kicked in. I just made sure i staged first which gives you time to relax and held 2k rpm for the launch. 75% Power in first all the way to about 3.5k should do you - any more and youll get wheel spin/bounce.

Then short shift into 2nd and ride the wave of 300lbs of torque!

lol, maybe i should create a wooden block behind my accelerator to limit to 75% throttle, therefore reduces the amount i bounce around everywhere

I heard a story that some people spec their Mini Cooper S' up with so many "extras" that a standard Cooper will beat it round the track.

A third hand story, but the originator was a bloke that worked in a certain car plant in Cowley...

Span, if i spent the same money on my Mini as you have on your Derv i would have a GTT 300bhp conversion. only fair really.

You can try to matey, but you had better watch your clutch with all that JBS torque matey. may fook it up Were as i will give my clucth as much abuse as is needed, and will manage to cope with it all
