Wheel Bearing?

Last week I posted up a question regarding the ever louder droning noise from my LCR. This happens above 30mph when the steering is straight or turned to the right. When turned to the left it is not as bad.

I changed the well worn P-Zeros on the front for new F1's yesterday and the noise is exacly the same.

Could it be a wheel bearing?

Which ones have you had replaced?

How do you tell which one is gone?

I will fit it myself as I have all tools including a press and have done it before on other cars. Do you know how much the part will cost?

I've got exactly the same problem.... a grumbling droning noise that increases in volume & frequency with speed from 30ish upwards. It is also from dead centre and any degree of angle turning right.

Have you managed to identify if it is the wheel bearing and if so which side was it ? I lifted both wheels tonight and couldn't feel any noticeable play when holding in the wheel at the 12 o'clock & 6 o'clock positions. Its booked in for service on Scotswood road on Friday and I'd like to tell them which side is knackered so they can have the part in ready and do the job at the same time rather than book in again. I commute 70 miles each day so I don't know how much longer I can get away with it before it collapses.

Front right twice and front left once, not so sure why, SEAT have done mine under warrenty. Really you just have to have good ears to know what one it is.

In the end I replaced both front bearings. They both seemed to have 'play' on them when you jack the wheel off the ground and wobble it from top to bottom. I got them for £32 each so it only cost £64 to do them both. Its not a job I would recommend unless you have done them before. No noise now

just done mine, fronts are about 28quid rears are about 80 as its part of the hub!
you'll be able to hear it when the cars jacked up and you spin the wheel.

I jacked the car up but I couldn't hear or feel any difference between the two sides to figure out which bearing was goosed. Going on identical symptoms & diagnosis from Storeyd's post, I assumed it was nearside (the loaded side when the noise occurs on right hand corners) and got the dealer to get the part in stock ready to replace it during the service.

Just got the car back this evening from Pattersons in Newcastle and the noise is long gone. What a relief - I thought the wheel was going to fall off on the Weardale moors yesterday !
