could this be caused by a loose sump breather pipe problem?

i ask as my 1.4 99 plate has been stalling when cold and i changed the air fliter the weekend before last, and the pipe may have become looser than before

still got to get it looked at as the rev's are not steady on idle, hoping i find a new car before i have to spend money on eit:whistle:

iv got a 99 1.4 aswell and it tends to drop revs wen slowing down but then picks up straight after. Iv heard this quite a lot on here and people have suggested to clean out ur throttle body. havent tried this yet. hopefully it will work altho not a major problem for me as hasnt started fully cutting out.

drops down to 750 mark b4 returnin to usual warm engine 900rpm mark within a second/2 seconds. its enough to dim the lights a bit.

mine is gonig between 500 and 1k when idle, and sometimes cuts out when cold but is normally ok when engine is warm but engine still revs like this when idle

i cleaned the throttle body the other weekend and replaced the air filter as i said i just don't want to have to fork out money to fix it when i am looking at getting a mk4 ibiza tdi sport as soon as i can

is ther any reason why ur timing maybe out?

not that i know of, i haven't touched anything at all as i say cleaned throttle body out but only with a cloth tbh and changed the air filter

added some petrol additive to a tank a fuel a few weeks ago, not touched anything else recently. the stalling only seems to have occured since i changed the air filter but that may be linked with timing

car has done 79k and been about 10k since a service, but that shouldn't mean anything as far as i know

i was readin on the internet this afternoon that carb cleaner shouldn't be used on ur throttle body as it can damage seals etc so b4 u take my advice and ruin it buy throttle body cleaner if you do it again properly :D

well bit the bullet and took it to the garage over lunch for the guy to take a look at

mentioned idle control valve which looks like it may be a bit more pricey than i was hoping at 64quid for the part from gsf:(

update - garage cannot find anything wrong but don't have a diagnostic machine, did replace the rotar cap and arm as it was catching though. seemed to be running better but will know more this evening
