FR - Long wait now over

Took delivery today of a not so shiny Red Tdi, and to be honest I'm gutted re the quality of the car. It's arrived (after 16 Weeks of waiting) with a faulty MFD, and one of the rear alloys having been kerbed somewhere between Sunny Espana and the not-so-sunny East of Scotland. The interior really is composed of some of the worst plastics I've ever seen in a car, the centre console area being a great example (It kinda 'wobbles' if you push it from either side).

Despite loading the car up with most of the available options (with the exception of Sat Nav), none of it can be described as quality kit. I think I'm already regretting not sticking with the A3 , and going for the 170 version of the Audi. I've probably been spoiled haven driven the 2.0Tdi 140, with options such as the BOSE ICE upgrade. Compared to this, the SEAT sounds a tad asthmatic no matter how it's adjusted.

One things for sure though, the difference between the output of the 140 and the 170 is clearly noticeable, it's about the only positive note I can make at this point...........Hoping I grow to like it, or there's gonna be a well spec-ed motor coming to an Audi dealership soon!!

Oh dear, maybe you should take it back then and get them to sort any problems that you have with it.

I ordered and bought the car without a test drive, based upon the fact that if the 2.0 140 in the A3 was excellent, then the 2.0 170 was gonna be even better (which it most definitely is, having given it a quick run upto 100mph a couple of times today).

I called the dealer, and hopefully they'll be able to resolve the MFD issue, but they weren't so keen to promise any resolve to the wheel damage.

Can't imagine you'd collect a new motor without checking the wheels!? You didn't test drive either!?
The guys at Seat would have picked up the damage on a PDI for sure.

I'd expect a boll****g from my Mrs for doin either of the above and then whinging & whining!!

Nevermind! DOH

sorry Gazza but you sound soooo pathetic. So you did not take it to test drive, you did not sit in it (I assume of your comments about crappy plastics)... So why whine:shrug:

ROTFLMAO - This is a quality thread.

You buy a "cheap" version of an Audi A3 without any test drive or even seeing the car, then wonder why it feels "cheaper" than your Audi inside..

If i tell you what i've got in my garage is a brilliant car, will you hand me over 17 - 18K of your cash without even seeing it?

Brilliant there has to be some kind of award for posts like this.

Well you have no one to blame apart from yourself.

Thats like me saying "yeah i bought a seat cos i liked the Lambourghini Gallardo i saw, i mean they are both VAG at the end of the day"

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but your comaprison is harsh too, the Leon is a cracking car, especially in FR trim FOR THE MONEY YOU PAY FOR IT. and thats the iportant thing to remember.

Exactly, go spec up the identical Audi A3 and look at the price difference, now ask yourself why its more expensive!

Hi all, First post and all that. I orderd my Fr tdi yesterday and it will be a factory build so told it will take around 2 and a bit months. They said they will mark it as urgent to try and get it sooner. Is that even possible?

the seat has audi quality control i am led to believe, the plastics are good, apart from the door cards, check out VW golf MK5's or Pug's now thats bad plastic.why not upgrade the A3 power with a remap then youd get the desired performance.
But welcome to the site anyhows,

Gazzaa...did you point out the damage to the wheel when you took delivery of the car or after you had driven it off the forecourt? If the latter, I can understand why the stealer is reluctant to do anything. If it was pointed out before you drove the car away then I would start quoting Sale of Goods act and get Seat Customer Service involved.

As for the other comments regarding your disappointment with the car, well I am afraid I would have to agree with the others that to buy a vehicle without having driven (or even sat in it by the seem of things)in this day and age is absolute madness:doh: . There is plenty of inside info on sites like What Car and this forum if you are prepared to look for it. Personally having come out of a Subaru and having driven many Golf hire cars I find the interior of my TDI Sport to be of better quality plastic and harder wearing.

I hope when you have driven the Seat a bit a bit you will soon forget the other gripes:funk:

A press release was issued today, by Warranty Direct, an independant company that sells after market warranty plans. They did a survey based on their customers cars. On what cars were more reliable. There were only on cars older than 3 years, so it doesn't really compare Apples for Pears in this thread's key debate.

However it was interesting all the same.

Sad to say in this particular report, the SEAT's didn't fair so well coming 28th out of 33 marques surveyed. But the Audi's were only one place above them in 27th.

However a link associated with this survey, shows a different story on newer cars surveyed. With SEAT inside the top 10, just in 9th.

Only my first post, and I'm kinda unsure as to why a 'pack mentality' seems so prevalent from other forum members about buying a car without having driven one before-hand?

My previous TT coupe, original model A3, Golf Mk4, Civic Type R and new A3 were all ordered long before any cars were available to test drive, and all of these were (in the context of when they were purchased) good buys.

Anyway the dealers gonna replace the wheel (attributed to the dealers own driver who delivered the vehicle to my home - a journey of about 70 miles, and as a consequence it was too dirty to allow a proper inspection), and get the MFD replaced under warranty.

It is not a problem to buy a car without even having seen or driven it. I have also ordered a Leon Cupra without having driven one. But if you do this you have no reason to complain about the car...
