Just thought I'd say hello in the Ibiza area of SCN, officially I can now as we picked up a nice Flash Red Ibiza FR TDi for my wife last weekend :coolthumb I'm usually lurking in the Leon section after having two of them for the last 4 years... Having 2 Seat's on the driveway is cool [B)]

Well I'm after a bit of info, I think I have found the answer after searching but want to confirm before I break something! I've got a few bits to mod the FR and make the inside look slightly less plain, TT Pedals, Chrome vent rings and gear surround, Sony CD Head unit, Nokia Bluetooth car kit and a CD holder for the gap under the head unit.

My question is about the chrome vent rings. From what I gather they are a bit of an arse to fit and the vents need to come out. I just can't seem to work out how they come out exactly, and I don't want to start breaking them on a new car  Has anyone got some pointers for me? I'm thinking they need to come out from behind, so would be a good idea to do them when I fit the new head unit.

Ta very much.... :D

welcome to the ibiza section rob
the air vent rings are not too bad to fit the instruction suplied a pretty good
outside ie near the doors are easy its the ones in the centre that can be a pain as the vents push int the dash well mine did so had to remove the stereo and push the backfrom under the dash

Written this three times now so a quick copy/paste :p :

Side vent rings you can just pull out, just pull hard... To re-insert just line up the clips and then push straight back on.

Me and Mike_OBD made a cool discovery getting the middle ones out... We called it "Vent Casting"

Just get 2 strong peices of wire and bend them into a hairpin-ish shape. Use it as a 'hook' to feed the wire round the vent slats. When you get the other end thru, give yourself plenty of wire to pull with good grip. DO THIS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE VENT - Make sure it comes out straight at all costs!

Then pull really really (really!) hard.... The vent will pop out of its socket about 1cm towards you... Now stop pulling! You can then take the ring off and re-plug it in.

You can either do this or un-screw the centre console - easy for those with manual AC, but a bugger for Climate users as 2 torx screws are underneath the climate box which require a wrench-style screwdriver. If you take that lot out along with the cup holder etc, you can push the vents out from the inside...

When your plugging them in - its useful to take apart the glove box as you can just see the side of them. Use a Torx T-20 to undo all the screws.

ILL ALSO RECOMMEND - Masking tape around the vents just incase you slip!

Keep an eye on Ebay - I got one for my Leon for £16 and the Ibiza one for £20. They only hold 4 CD's but it's better than none!
Thanks for the info Edbutler, sounds a pain in the arse to me. I couldn't find your post on this, just lots on what they look like fitted.
