PC polisher

Is it a good buy or to expensive to get the full kit from cleanyourcar.co.uk, don't know whether i can be bothered to fetch and carry all the bits required, plus don't really know what i am talking about having not owned one of these machines before. How much would you be saving if you bought all the peices required seperately?

The price is definitly right, if you buy the Porter, and then all the add ons, you are easily upto that price.

But its not something you can use without having a little bit of know how. You definitly need to take advice and phaps a little bit of tuition before you go ahead and use it,

I bought mine from Autopia. Approx £110 ( USA ) then all the additional pads, transformer. extention cable etc

I would echo that. PC is a great bit of kit, although a lot of money if you are only going to use it occasionally. I would certainly recommend getting some tuition on in how to get the best from it - or failing that go to a local body shop and ask for some scrap panels to practise on. They will often give these for free. Check out www.detailingworld.co.uk and read up first - it has loads of info on importing a PC from the States, and then the bits you need here and converting the plug etc. Also, threads on how to use it.

thanks have been reading the forum alot. been cleaning cars for around 20 yrs now an dmy friends think i am mad cleaning my car sometimes three times a week when it isn't even dirty(in there opinion). have got a little bit of knowledge and also know a good bodyshop where he would probably let me have a panel or two great advice thanks for that. So is it about the same price importing it over then?

You might save a little, but to buy a kit from someone who's got it here already, with the correct 110v plug on an extended lead, and the transfomer, and decent pads, and some products to go with it......I think its worth an extra couple of quid myself.

I bought my PC from CYC !!

Good kit and very helpful as well, It's nice to have everything you need turn up in one big box

As for PC useage, it's a very safe product, only way you can do damage to your paint if it's too thin in my opinion.

With the correct polishes that aren't incredibly abrasive you'll be left with a stunning finish and it will all be worth it

Menzerna Final Finishl

It's a brilliant polish the level of gloss it leaves behind is unrivaled in my humble opinion, also it will remove defects and no worries of leaving any marring behind , that can be left by by more abrasive polishes.

It will be a great "beginners" polish as it's relivately low level of cut will mean it's very safe to use and the finish will be top drawer as well so will build your confidence.

As for a finishing product, there are thousands to choose from but again my opion of a good wax that won't cost you an arm and a leg is ...

Chemical Guys XXX Wax

Very easy to apply and buff off and good shine as well, personally my favourite wax of 2006

The three step is more a begginers kit for getting a car up to a nice finish, but not really the sort of products you'd use if you were spending big money on a PC, and the real purpose of a PC is to remove swirls and minor defects. Not something the Megs 3 step is made for.
The Autoglym Gloss and Tutle wax gloss would be a waste of time if you were going to put them on top of a megs 3 step. The gloss should be used before the wax (step 3 is a carnauba wax) and ideally you would want to apply a good sealant after the polish and before the wax.
Look at getting the De-swirlers and sealants along with some decent (usually expensive) polishes, wax's and soft clay for the cold weather.

I think the biggest amount of discount from autopia is 15% with the above code.

There was a rumour around about a 25% code but nothing ever came of it as far as i know
