yeah as mentioned before - remap, cold air intake, front intercooler and good exhaust and downpipe should give around 250 bhp. When looking at this sort of power boost and oil temp gauges are important, plus you should get a better diverter valve - OEM one is known to fail at stock boost levels, let alone 18+ psi remapped pressure.
If you want the blow off noise the HKS SSQ valve is the only option on our cars - other valves will throw an engine error and thus cut the boost pressure (limp mode). Diverter valves are fine whatever you get - Forge, Bailey, or a blow off valve with a recirculation adaptor like what I have.
you should also look at getting slotted discs and good brake pads - possibly also braided brake lines to improve the brakes.

As a long-time focus owner and fan, it's a breath of fresh air to see real performance gains for reasonable £££.

Whereas with the Leon/Ibizas.. you've a few performance models and plenty of 150~bhp cars that can easily be built upon to create monsters.

Totally agree, I loved my Focus. It was a 1.8 and a great car, but was never going to be fast.
When I had it, I was impressed every time I saw an ST170, now I realise that as good a car as they are, they're just not that quick.
Still love the RS though for its sheer attitude!

The RS has real prescence. It's a lovely car.. but again, is it ALL that quick? :<
Shame Ford and everyone has to be emissions conscious now.. remember the days of the old RS's and Cossies? Gone forever under new emissions standards. And unfortunately, squeezing the same raw power out of engines now, while watching the exhaust gases means we've seen the end of an era. And the standards are set to get tighter :<

The Focus's may not be (ultimately) as fast in a straight line but by all accounts (including people who know what their talking about) they have a better chasis and therefore handling.
I never chose an ST170 because
a) I don't like the look of the car. No matter how well it's suppose to handle a Focus will always be a family mans car to me.
b) The engine is peaky and it just doesn't suit my driving style (which has always been a lazy short shifting one when driving normally).
I like my LCs torquey motor and effortless lazy acceleration, (though now I'm aclimatised with the move up in power from a very humble 1.4 Clio I'm thinking about remapping it - I couldn't afford an R), but in some ways I actually prefer the way my old Clio handled, although it obviously had much less grip and softer suspension.

Depends on the engine code I believe. The engines in a Sport are actually identical to those in a standard Cupra. AUQ codes are VVT engines. There is a list somewhere on the Briskoda forum, but I don't have the link.

VVT on 1.8T's is purely for emissions purposes and not performance like VTEC. So no power difference between VVT 1.8T's and non VVT models.

Still learning about the engine on this one - nearly got it sussed I reckon..... it's the thing that makes all the noise at the front end of the car isn't it?

Yeah, its that big lump with all the cheap sensors on it that need replacing monthly.
I know what you mean about not going backwards though, you get so used to its power, that it even feels slow withot a remap - and thats still 180bhp! Which is still alot when you put it into perspective.
I think by the time I'm ready for a new car though, It may even be Diesel - I see there are quite a few new ones that will be over 200 with a remap and won't drink the go-juice like water!
