Hi all ive just had a quote from Exhausts UK (suppliers of stainless enxhaust systems for pimp my ride uk) and for a full turbo back custom system inc backbox is £350 supplied fitted and including VAT, which i thinks a bargain. any comments on this? I had a cobra exhaust from them on my astra and never rusted n was birlliant!

A mate had 2 systems off Exhausts UK (sheffield) on different cars, both went back a couple of times with problems, I *think* EdButler has a system from them, maybe PM him

maybe but it always depends on the fitter and how your mate treated it, ive seen muppets scrape exhausts over bumps etc then if your mate done that then obviously he would have problems, i doubt a preferred supplier for many popular magazines would have these problems. I know a mate who had a full exhaust system on his orion done by them and had no problems what so ever!

but these sort of places dont necessarily know what's involved in the system, and id say that's around 200quid too cheap if it really does include a new downpipe

you takes the risk and you pays your money

as for being a "a preferred supplier for many popular magazines" thats probably because they will make any tail pipe a customer wants, not because of the quality of their work

you're presuming that magazine hacks have a f*cking clue about anything - let alone exhausts.

I'd get a tried & tested downpipe & cat - then look at a 'custom' exhaust if you can't find an off the shelf one to fit your needs.

considering in the magazine i get they had a whole 2 pages on a tried and tested exhaust system over a period of 6 months? they done endurance, rust and economy and its got a very good rating compared to powerflow and mongoose all i was asking is the price good?

A magazines job is to sell magazines - and a journo will reflect this in their article / review.

Magazines make most of their revenue from advertising, so willfully slating a suppliers product won't win them their full page adverts.

It's rare to pick up a copy of Max Powa / Flast Car / Performance V without them saying how great 'everything' is.

Flip the page over from a glowing review, and there will be a full / half page advert. that'll be another £3k in the kitty for salaries this month.

IF the price is right, and the system is as good as any other it's a good deal

but the labour & time involved in it suggests otherwise.

The Flange for the turbo, sports cat will be the best part of £150, before fabricating the downpipe itself. add this onto the rest of the system...

I got a quote for a 'custom' cat back straight through silencer, any back box & any tail trim for the van - which was £240 all in.

I'd say they should see your car before quoting... otherwise I think they're under selling themselves - as downpipe fabrication will take a long time.

Will also add that they'll do whats easiest for them and not really whats best for you or the car.

Most or their clientel will be more interested of how shiney the tailpipe is and how it sounds.

Yeah maybe it does, well you might get a **** fitter. You seem a bit defiant of any criticism of Exhausts UK and shoot down anyone that says a bad word My mates cars were far too high to be scraping the exhausts over bumps, i dont know the specific details of the faults but his most recent one on an Ibiza mk3 was welded very poorly.

im not shooting down everyone that says anything bad all im asking is for people who have had experienced any problems with these people but like all exhaust companies some of them do, do shite jobs like powerflow ive herd brilliant stories about them and some real bad ones, but as you just said it was down to poor welding which can also be bad rods on the welder lol im basically talking about quality of the metal and how much performance but yea welding is most important all opinions are welcome

caution is advised...
it could turn out that once they have the car and properly weigh up the job, they might have to cut corners to bring it in on price... or they'll sell at a loss.

merely speculation but it's something to chew on...
