Righty-ho, so i accidently drained the transmission fluid in my 1.4 yesterday when i meant to drain the oil.

I've purchased some more and added 2l but it's still not to the correct level, does anyone know how much more gear oil i'm going to need?

PS. Feel free to make fun of the idiot who didn't check where the sump plug was...

Its either 3.5 liters of 4 liters. Meaning you will need to purchase at least another 2l bottle of oil. Than stick 1.5 litres in, wait 1 minute, check oil. Than follow add another half litre, wait one minute and check again. Repeat until at correct level.

p.s. I still haven't found the gearbox oil plug. But that's probably because I never looked for it.But I guess its somewhere at the bottom of the gearbox, lol.

your the first person ive heard of who has drained the gearbox oil instead of the engine oil lol... just a case of keep filling the box until it comes out the filler hole, as thats the level. haynes manual will help alot as mentioned before.

Oh, just noticed you were asking how much oil goes into the Gearbox, and not the Engine. Therefore ignore my previous post

Haynes doesn't say how much oil it needs (probably because it never suggests you should drain the gearbox unless you're removing it... )

Halfords flip-cards suggested 2l so i guess i'll just buy another litre tomorrow and keep adding till it overflows... fun fun.

Yup, i'm an idiot and i've only ever worked on Minis before (which only have one sump plug!) You live and learn...

I'll post back with how much oil it takes just in case anyone else ever does this... ;)
