i have a 97 ibiza cupra sport 16v

what make of coilovers do you have on your mk2s and do you recommend them?
what makes dont you recommend?

do the 8v and 16v have the same suspension setup?

any other information related to this anyone wants to throw at me would be gratefully recieved i dont know too much about coilovers - never had them before - but after reading a few threads i know coilovers is the way to go :D

thankyou!!!!!!

Esther :D

Ive got Avo. Bit expensive (800£ i think). But fully adjustable (height (160mm) and stiffness (not move, boat)). They are allreet.

I wish i hadnt bought them though (coilovers). Youll end up fitting them and having it at the same ride height same stiffness anyway. But will help me for the next level.

i'd go for some fixed rate spring and shock combo instead

i have coilovers on my ibiza and regular dampeners on my cordoba

i think coilovers are abit novelty unless you do alot of track sessions or some sort of road events where adjustability is required

some eibachs or bilsteins have my vote

as i said novelty....you dont need to unless your Pdippy or 50pence

breaking cv's and driveshafts aint cool, my ibiza is lowered about 45mm and the front bumper is scratched to **** and my milltek exhaust rests on the rear axel

i want to be able to slam her as much as i can to show off then put her up to a driveable height the rest of the time so coilovers seems to be my best bet and i want branded stuff so FK seems to be the way forward - cheers guys :D

absolutely

no offence but if i cant be ****ed pissing about with the ride height I cant see you doing it much my dear!

its a real pain in the backside, wheel off, spanners on, measure thread, wheel on, repeat x3

and after 3 months the thread will be full of **** whether you get mild steel or stainless steel!

and i doubt you'll keep it lower than a 60mm drop because of how impractical it is and if when parts start wearing quicker

im bringing mines up to a sensibl height, in a year and a half its been sitting about -65mm without one component snapping etc and nothing has been replaced since new! so it depends how well u keep ur car looked over.

but id say 40/50mm is my ideal height when i get my cupra rims on

I have just measured mine and the back wheel is sitting 10mm inside the arch, and the front has a 15mm gap between the arch and top of the tyre. Seems a pretty good setup so far, as I can have 3 people in the car no problem, and it still goes over speed bumps (had to take off the LCR splitter tho). I can full lock it without much scraping :D. As for the stiffness, the front has been turned all the way up to the stiffest setting, and back suspension has been turned half way up. Looks SWEET, sticks to the road, but isn't as uncomfortable as I have thought I'd be.

BTW I'm using GAZ coilovers (mostly used by Mini owners), and they are spot on.

i didnt mean i was gonna do it lol!
i dont think i would go lower than 60mm but its the options i want really more than anything. would rather have it around 40mm for everyday then the option to have it a bit lower if i wanna go anywhere - like no-rice or an event or something - just my bolf is only down 35mm at the mo - which is plenty cos otherwise the backbox scrapes in my local retail park when i go to pizza hut but would be nice to have the option

might not have had anything break but you have certainly severely increased wear on a number of crucial parts. i wasn't implying things would start breaking immediately but the extra stress definitely decreases the life span by a substantial amount.

fair enough if coilovers is what you have to have then i recommend the FK highsports, best overall value for money, but only for ride height. quality isnt amazing and performance is pretty **** in comparison.

Fk's on mine, too softly sprung for my liking since its a track day car, got drive-shaft issue under hard cornering, even more so when it was really low.
