mk3 new clutch info needed

in my own experience, id estimate that a fresh new stock clutch would handle up to ~275bhp very well and treated efficiently and not abused could well last over 50K miles without any hassle

but start really hurting it and i think it might not even give u 25K

yes id agree ofcourse then u can start picking at the old RR debate again, to pick a case study, say Martyns Ibiza Cupra R

hes running every available mod under the sun on K03S turbo...Revo st2 HB 9! LOL

and yet iv heard no complaints from him regarding standard clutch, at a recent RR it produced no where near 250bhp but no-one can really deny that whether the RR figures he had were or werent accurate, he's 'probably' running near to the car maximum performance at which on a K03S turbo id say is about 240-250bhp with torque an even higher number

ofcourse its obvious that 2 identical clutches fitted to the same car could perform differently because of the bigger impact that is the amount of miles on each clutch and the life that each one has led.

i.e. the clutch from joe bloggs's ibiza compared to one of the rockingham Rs

Clutch wear isn't linearly proportional to power. My point is (or should i say my interest lies with) where does the limit start to apply where standard day to day driving is concerned? now it seems to me that if i'm not ragging it anywhere, a standard clutch could well handle 300bhp / associated torque for significant miles...however I bet if you put 4 up in that same car, it would have problems.

Tracking it changes EVERYTHING (as does racing everything thst looks marginally quick on public roads ' potentially')

I want something that can handle about what Marts has got, but for day to day driving. If that's the standard clutch, then...Happy Days are here again

i see what ur saying, although i have to admit i really didnt think very much about extra weight affecting the clutch

at the same time though iv found i can only fit children in the back of mine as with my seat so far back theres barely any leg room at all which is why i hadnt really taken any interest into that

as said though it seems that a '250bhp' engine should be fine with a clutch that is looked after

well car has just been dropped off, unfortunatly i didnt get a chance to have a word with the mechanic doing the work but they are gonna have a look round and check everything out before they open the box of the new clutch.

though there doesnt seem to be much anyone can do, seems like the simplest way is the long road to removing the box and just using your eyes

in all honesty i hope they remove the box and see that the clutch plate is almost bare, that way they can fit the new clutch and il be trouble free hopefully. this should cost in the region of 225 quid in total (alot for an unemployed student) , most expensive repair iv ever had to do on a car iv owned, which is impressive as the ibiza is the newest and strongest car iv owned

well it wasnt done cos the clutch was the wrong one

so for anyone who searches for information on a replacement clutch for the ibiza, the website i got mine from listed the clutch for AYP/AQX but it is a 220mm clutch and i had a 228mm clutch so for anyone who orders one make sure u know what ur getting and what u need

will have car back tomo with new clutch and downpipe fitted but at 70-100quid more than i was expecting

Good thread acid, mine has just started to slip now and have been going through some old posts to see how much my pockets gonna take a hit

I know Im gonna have to change it soon, a bit p***ed off though at another hidden expense i hadnt expected, just done the cambelt, now need rear brakes, clutch and a leak in the d/p or manifold sorted.....

Anyway, how long can i drive it safely whilst its starting to slip (2nd gear only really when pushed) Ive got a 180 mile round trip in the next couple days and dont want to be phoning the AA...
also did you get any quotes for standard plus fitting from any sponsors on here?

you can drive it for aslong as you want...either till it pisses you off so much that it makes you cry yourself to sleep at night

or till you lose basically all drive together and can barely move

basically, try not flooring, use half throttle generously, and dont pick any fights with anyone because you want to keep the wear down to a minimum f you dont wanna be forking out soon

mine was slipping for months untill i could afford to do it

ofcourse if your seriously concerned you could also knock back to standard cos you have revo if i remember rightly.

none of the sponser could help me much, mainly cos most of them are around 200-300mile trips

budget for £250-350 and you should be fine

Its pretty annoying but if its safe to drive a bit longer tbh i'll wait a week or 2, just not cane it anywhere (dammit!)
Yes i have revo although I dont think id want to knock it back to standard, but its good to have options should it get a lot worse.
Im not happy at forking out again on something, but at least its general wear and tear stuff, just at the wrong time!
