I have a milltek system and the car has been lowered, I think I can hear the exhaust hitting the back beam axle, has anyone else ever encountered this before?

I had something simular - i had a look after and the exhaust has come off a rubber - but put it back on and started doing it again - Ive got a miltek aswell and lowered too -

reading things from here, probably your heat shield - will need it up on a ramp- go to Kwik Fit - they do free exhaust checks, and you can have a quick look if the heat shield has come off

yup, its because the factory exhaust as a squashed bend going over the rear axel when you lower it, it knocks against it mines really bad sometimes only thing you can do is go for a cat back with a higher bend. but the price of a custom section your better off going for a full sytem which also wil benefit you if you want to get a bigger turbo!

get some shorter exhaust mounts, it may cure it a little but unfortunatly the H&R kit is a fair drop, i decided to wind my coilovers up loads after i fitted my exhaust

I have a scorpion system & it rattles too but only when Im stationary. Does yours rattle only when stationary?

Also does it only do it when the car has heated up? Mine only rattles after the car has been driven for more than half hour & the engine temp is warm

it will do because the exhaust moves more when stationary and its almost still when your accelerating. You may notice it rattles against the rear bumper like mine does as well as the beam

although my car isnt lowered, my milltek exhaust did rattle when i first fitted it, and it got worse when it got hot as it causes the metal to expand. i think in the milltek instructions it says the entire exhaust system will be 15mm-20mm longer than whe cold... somethig like that anyway... anyway, i took my car back to milltek and they sorted it for me, took the backbox off and cut off the pipe where it goes over the beam and welded it back on slightly rotated. this has given PLENTY of clearance on a standard ride height, and it may be enough to stop it knocking on a lowered one, or maybe atleast make it better!?!? just a thought.

their workshop was in ilkestone, near nottingham by the way

I had this with my Polo back in the day (same rear beam)

As mentioned, get under the car when it's cold, push the backbox up and see if it cures the noise. If it does then shorter hangers will sort you out, if not (like me with the amount I lowered my Polo!!) go to a decent Powerflow (St. Albans is best) and get them to re-do the section over the beam. Cost me £100 but it was the best £100 I spent on the car as that noise was driving me close to insanity!
