Maybe this will help to ressolve the issues about how quick the LCR is in comparison to other cars. Standard cars obviously, but should give a fair idea.

LCR is 3.6 seconds quicker than a civic type R then. so how come the LCR have never really had a good word said about it on top gear? would a focus RS still be 0.7 quicker than a leon if it didn't have a trick diff?

The facelift Civic Type R was introduced in 2003. The main differences are restyled headlights and side repeaters in the wing mirrors. The also messed around with the steering and it was 0.1 seconds to 60 quicker.

I think fith gear did a comparison of the civic, focus and leon, and the leon cam out about .25 of a second behind the civic, so they seem to be pretty similar. it's on youtube somewhere.

It may be much faster in a straight line but it's a heavy car so may not be able to carry the speed in the corners as well as the LCR. I'd guess that a much slower car (straight line speed wise) can lap just as fast as a much faster car if it can hold the speeds in the corners better

Probably MK4 and MK5 Golf. The MK5 supposedly handles better than the old one which would explain the difference in lap times

there is also a horsepower difference from mk4 -mk5 r32 along with better chassis improve laptimne considerbley intresting to see if the new leon fr could keep up witha lcr roound the track
