Any new Leon owners had any problems with their DPF?
I have heard they can clog up.
they are supposed to be able to burrn off particulate by reaching 600C, (ooh err missus!):(
They also require a special (even more expensive) engine oil.
Do they stop black smoke or is that too fine to get caught by the filter.

DPF warning light came on recently but soon disappeared after a run on motorway.

It comes if only used on numerous short journeys, but even a short blast on M62 soon sorted it.

Not sure about expensive oil, but I'll bear that in mind.

Not had any black smoke.......

With engines fitted with a DPF there is not meant to be any visible smoke.

If the warning light comes on its advising it needs to avtivate the regeneration, it generally means you need to change the way yo drive to help burn it off!

As for the engine oil yes you are supposed to use PD oil!!

The DPF filter is covered under the 3yr warranty, but if you do short journeys beware !! three dash light ups, and the DPF could be U/S !! - so make sure you do at least one long journey a week.
So much for all this advanced techno, Im all for saving the planet but CATs and DPFs all use rare metals - and Im sure some of the processes involved are toxic, sorry Ill stop ranting now!!

Agreed on the heavy metals in CATS (don't know about DPFs).

I am however impressed with the lack of soot clogging peoples lungs when they go near the car.

Our old 130PD ibiza smelled like a taxi, esp. when starting up. Our new FR is unnoticable in terms of smoke and smell. Impressive. I think maybe we lose a bit of economy though. 42mpg on average isn't that great for a diesel.

The DPF is just a nice new gimmick so that your car doesn't have a plume of smoke when you race off and of cause enables a cleaner environment.... i have the light come on various times but after a chug at 1400 revs for a bit it soon disappears, it usually comes on if you do a lot of stopping and starting and especially if you give it some all the time... Also if it gets very very hot it stinks of burning....... Overall it is a nice piece of kit so you don't have lots of crap up the back of your car and it looks like a petrol when you blast off, as well as not smelling when you start it in the morning...
