They're 45 litre tanks actually, so your 48 litres isn't anything special. Think I put over 53 in mine once... :)

Im just getting round to what venting is all about. But I dont see how you can get more miles out of it?? ok it means going to the petrol station not as often as before, but how do you get more miles out of venting? your paying for the petrol so what difference does venting make? or is it just to get more petrol in the tank and therfore less stopping to fill up??
I think I may try this next time I fill up. Anyone got any tips or things to look out for??

Its to get more *diesel* in the tank, therefore less stops to fill up.

Think it has already been agreed earlier in the thread that you cannot do this on Mk2's only Mk1's (although it is late and i may be confused!) :cartman:

Editing your spelling
can you explain the word venting?

it means pressing the button on the fuel filler entrance so that it vents out the air in the expansion section, so you can fit more fuel in.

Isn't the excess space in the tank to allow the fuel to expand? I wonder if filling this with fuel could cause any damage?

Yes it is to allow the fuel to expand, but no-one has found the amount of space they give you for expansion as not being enough. Even in some USA temps. filling this with fuel causes no damage.

And also, does it mean that fuel is more likely to spill out the top which is pretty dangerous for bikers if it's diesel? :(

yes the old diesel spill issue 'could' be a concern but no-one has had it leak out due to filling the expansion tank, certainly not enough to cause a slick.
