Thats quite a nice example, silver ones seem to fetch less for some reason. I managed to get mine for only a few hundred more than that but 14k less miles.

I love my Cupra 20vt, i wouldnt change it for the world, and now i have pumped the tyres up to the correct pressures i can get 35 mpg quite happily. (for me thats fine - i would rather that and have the noise and atmosphere of a petrol turbo)

Each to their own at the end of the day, personally i reckon if you offer him 7.750 he should take it or negotitate at least.

What pressure are you running your tyres at? I can't find that perfect figure  :(

Out of interest why do you want the diesel so badly?

If it is what you want, get an Ibiza 130 Tdi instead, The difference in petrol costs is so negligable on that milage the i personally cant see the benefits.

I think you have a very mature attitide though, all credit to you, debt is horrible, i wanted a LCR but i bought the Cupra because i have no debt on this car and it actually pays me money to drive it! I cant say i regret it one bit either :)

TDI Only for fuel economy and insurance purposes really. Cupra of any kind petrol or diesel will be ample fast enough for me and probably too fast for the missus :funk: I think she will get used to it though.

The Ibiza is too small for us to be honest. We already have a (super)mini with the wifes Punto (although there is nothing particularly super about it  )

Thanks for all your help folks ;)

Mines a Cupra on the 17's but i have a sticker inside my petrol cap saying 33psi all round. To my disgust they were all at 27!! My mpg has recovered by over 3 mpg lol!

Colonelk - are you on Mig too?? Or Astra Sport?? i recognise the name?!

As for insurance - im 22 with a Leon Cupra (20vt) - 03 plate in black with 25k per annum and its only 740 for me fully comp with direct line! :)

I dont think 7999 is over priced, its about right imo - that would be 8999 at a dealer with ease. Mine was just over 8k - same age but 21k on the clock - they are holding their value very very well!

Oh one other thing lol - have you considered an Octavia RS? Just as quick (my dad used to get 38 mpg) and roomier/ bigger boot for the sprogs stuff!

Just to add a little something. Most dealers will now do finance with a baloon at the end of the term. For example, I had £5000 to put down as a deposit and a dealer who really wanted to sell me the car. I got the car for a good price, a new LCR 225 with factory Sat Nav for £16,000. The final balloon is set at £7,300 so I have to pay the difference between £11,000 and £7,300 off plus the interest on the whole lot. At the end of the term I owe £7,300 but have a car that is worth over £10,000 all day long. Upshot is I only pay £180 per month and at the end will get back £3,000 of my original £5,000. If you are talking about an FR TDi then it will be a lot less than £16,000 to begin with and you have a bigger deposit. You would have a very low monthly payment, have a cash at the end and own and drive a newer car which will cost you less to run.

Yes I've considered the Octavia, but I don't really like the shape as much as the Leon. Its the front end of the Leon that really makes me horny !!

I'm not the Colonelk on the MIG or Astra Sport site. In fact this is the first "Car" forum I've subscribed to. I'm more of a technology freak than a petrolhead to be honest. The name comes from an old Counterstrike gaming clan I used to play for called "Dangermouse". Each of us took a Dangermouse cartoon character name as our alias and mines ColonelK. Its stuck ever since  In fact I can't remember my real name :-o

Thanks for this Matt. I'm just not comfortable with finance of any kind to be honest (except the mortgage of course). Especially with the economy in a overhyped/fragile state. Brown can wax lyrical all he likes but I'm predicting leaner times ahead (its just a hunch mind, but at this time, to me at least, debt doesn't seem like a good idea  )

Thats definately the right attitude - just keep an eye out for the right car at the right price - it will come - now is a great time to buy and a bad time to sell - go knock them down on price and enjoy!
