I don't think its a matter of how big a drop, as with the 1.4's, standard suspensions varied as to where they sat from the many I've seen.
To be perfectly happy with a drop, get an adjustable susp. Most after sales suspensions were designed for the GTI's, so with less weight up front, it's not gona b perfect. I think with some adjustables, you can change damper settings too, which would mean just tinkering with heights and stiffness until happy.
That way, it gives you the option of height alround, so you can adjust until you're happy, rather than taking a gamble. That's what I'd do if I still had my 1.4, or even with my current car.

Had springs on mine, they're rubbish. Don't really sit properly at the front, very stiff, then after a year, you've definitely noticed the dampers have died.

aint heard from you in ages, u always give great advice though lol thanks. to be honest ima go for cheap and cheerful ...seem some in ebay for about £150-190 gonna give them a try "evo racing" doubt its a good name lol.

They look like the FK budget springs and shocks that I have. I have the 60mm all round kit and while its uber low, I like it!

itll scrape on full lock pretty much guaranteed, and youd probably have to 'alter' your wheel arch linings and what not to make them not rub
to be honest i need to know if it will rub if ill go over humps or if my car is full ...with 60/60 or 40/60 ...what do u think should i risk it? ive got a choice of
(with 15s and 195/50/15) 40/60 or 60/60
bezza its goin to scrape 60mm on 17"s trust! Mine was that low. I can show you the rub marks and the mangled arches!
boi if I would you play it on the safe side with a 40mm drop with uprated suspension and lowering springs, similar to the kit you are looking at!

and yes, you will possibly get a bit of rubbing at -60mm and a full car.
mines is down about 65 and 70 front and its...annoying now.
i can get over bumps, but not if i have people inthe back, no chance lol.
40mil is probs safest for spring kit. 60mil with a decent kit or coilovers for anything lower.
dont be fooled tho, coilovers get softer the lower they are wound down!

did you go for the coilovers? or shocks?
...also (off the point) blanking out the front number plate like urs looks well nice, just a quetion ..did they do a whole new fibreglass bumper for it? or add sumething to the plastic?
Um i bought the car like it i think its just springs! not even shocks and i have had it for 3 years and no problems! would deff get coilovers if i was to do it though well worth saving. The bumper isnt done yet as i photoshoped it, but i am looking to see where i can get it done! ill let you know when i find out.
