Airbag Light Bypass?

Right, just removed me OEM seats and now of course have the airbag light illuminated, one questions is the steering airbag sensor can be fooled by a 5amp fuse, but this is a basic two pin connection.

However the seats seem to use a 3 pin connection, I wondered (without looking myself) does anyone know a way of bypassing this light, or which of the 3 connections I need to place a resistor/fuse?

Failing this, does anyone know how to remove the clocks (again without me looking at the car) as my engine managment light has stopped working at the same time i've aquired an airbag light and I'd happily swap the bulbs over!! :D

i striped the clocks and taped over the light when i removed the air bags from mine

im sure the clocks use diodes instead of bulbs so you can't remove them either

Wonder why my engine light never works, diode's probably worn out LOL!

I think the pre-tensioners in the seat belt, the drivers airbag can all use a 5 amp fuse to stop the light, its just a case of working out how to bypass the seats and that'll stop the light.

Beware..... When the airbag light is on, the airbag system is off, so in the vent of an accident nothing will work, including the passenger airbag, so remenber that when you have a passenger in the car. Covering the light is no solution, its dangerous.

Just thought i would warn you all.

You need to fit a resistor to fool the airbag ECU into thinking that the airbag is still connected........ but never measure the resistance of an airbag as resistance measurements send a small voltage through the circuit and this will probably set the airbag off.

Kits are available from the stores to disconnect passenger airbags but iam not sure if they are suitable for side airbags. I dont see why not.

Matt.

luckily i've got no airbags at all in mine or control unit so no need to worry about them not going off or any faults

i tried to look up a side air bag deactivation kit for a customer but couldn't find anything listed

Matt - I've got no pre-tensioners, no drivers or seat airbags... they only one left is the passengers. And I wouldnt want that to go off in an accident as all it'll do is burn the passenger. Got harness's in the car and the car is now just a toy so anyone who gets in buckles up properly.

I'd rather all be disconnected is the main drivers is, however on certain VR6 golfs the passengers was still known to go off in an accident even though it should have been disconected through the main circuit!?!

so wich resistor do we need and wich 2 out of the 3 pins does it need to bridge?

im the same, got buckets and harnesses, id like to keep the air bags working if pos but im not to fussy, the light does pee me off.

This is how its done. All of my airbags and tensioners are turned off and removed.

You need to find a VAG specialist who has a VAS 5051/5052 diagnostic machine. You can access the airbag control unit and just turn each airbag or pre tensioner off. Its that simple and you dont need any resistors etc.

All that happens is when you turn the ingnition on the airbag light will flash for 10 secs then be off. The ecu will also record a fault for each unit thats turned off and it will just say 'airbag off'.

Fair enough mate. I was just wanting to let people know if they already dont that they can just cover up warning lights.

And as for simply turning the airbags of with 5051/5052 then please let me know how, which adaption channels etc, because i will let our Master Technicians know cause as far as they are aware this isn't possible.

Cheers

Matt

Well today I decided I don't mind blowing a hole in my dash and had a play... with great success.

Go into Airbags --> Adaption --> 01 to 06.

Through 01 to 06 you have airbags and pre-tensions. Once in the adaption change the vales from 0 (which is airbag enabled) to 1 (which is disabled) and save the setting. Do this to the requred airbags, I disabled them all including the passengers and the pre-tensioners.

Now when you turn the ignition on the light comes on, flashes for 20 seconds and then goes off.

Later on, when i'm back from work i'l write up a full guide on how do do it, and what block is what.

OK late in tonight, but i'll write up a guide tomorrow and maybe it'll even be main site worthy lol.

Next on my list is writing out the secondary air pump and carbon cannister, however I have a feeling these will be a little more tricky to find.

Also need to find someone with a VAS 5051/5052 diagnostic machine, pref near Surrey if poss. Can anyone advise??
