Changing Outside Temperature Sensor

I've searched but can't find much info on how to do this.
I've read about taking out the screw under the passenger mirror to allow access to the sensor and cut the wires in order to solder the new one in to save routing the new wire and plug through the car.
I took the screw out but the plastic on the mirror wasn't giving way. ANy tips on this? I'm always paranoid I'm going to break plastic.

i changed the sensor 2 or 3 months ago. the plastic ****ed me up, but with some lovely persuasion i got it :D
it goes really hard and a little nose broke off... then just cut the cable and solder the new one. the clip is too big for the hole @ the door.
good luck and sorry for my bad english ;)

i did mine a few weeks back, you have to carfully prize the old sensor out with a flat head screw driver. You will damage it a lil bit, just be carful with it.

I changed mine about 2 months ago - if im right, the plastic around the mirror just slid straight - im sure if you pull it towards you it slides out - then lift the sensor out gently with a flat screw driver - once you have replaced it - give it a while before it starts giving a correct reading

Right OK, I managed to get the plastic off by taking out the screw underneath the passenger mirror, and the rubber bung. Then I folded the mirror in and prized down the plastic with a screwdrivers gently all round. It eventually came off. Then I couldn't find where I'd "safely" put the new sensor, or a soldering iron and the old sensor just fell apart. Oh, and it was getting dark :cartman:

I worked out how to get the old broken up sensor out in the fading light and ended up connecting the new sensor with chocolate blocks (there was just enough room in the mirror for these).

When I turn the ignition on now it's still reading '-18'deg which is better than before which was '-49'or '--' so I'm hoping I could see which wire was brown and which was black lol but I'm guessing if I got anything wrong then it wouldn't be working at all. Also, ever since the old sensor broke the car shaped diagram on the radio display would flash a few times when turning on the ignition but it doesn't do that now. Is it true that the new sensor takes a little while to adjust? This seems odd to me! Anyway, my friend is clearing the fault later with VAG-COM so I'll see what happens.
