Hi all, my problems just started really.

The clutch on my 16v makes a rather louds clicking noise when i release the pedal after changing gear. The pedal it self doesnt feel any stiffer than usual although on these cars there bl@@dy stiff :) .

Has this happened to anyone else and is the solution just to oil the cable and if so how?

I dont want to sound hopeless here but when i look under the dash at the pedals there's not much sign of the cable it self.

Can anyone help?

Cheers. :)

Have exactly the same thing - I asked at the VW garage, and they had a look and couldnt find any problems. Mine's been making the noise for months but so far there havent been any problems. The VW garage said something about the clutch cable never being properly set up for a right hand drive car and so it is in a bit of an awkward position which might be why you can't find it.

sounds like the pedal box might of cracked.

or a stiffer than usual cable - yes they can get stiffer

if it is the cable then the box will be taking the strain so thats next

look up the side of the pedal to the first bush of the cable to see if its flexing

once wipers and scuttle is off i find it easy to do but then i have had too much practise for sure

you 'can' reset the ratchet but if in ANY doubt stick a new one on

dont forget to make sure its ready before you release it
