Hey guys,

I drove down to Leeds this morning and pulled up to check my directions, and when I started the engine again I got an "INSPECT" flashing in my odometer digital display, and now there is a permanent black spanner in the bottom left hand corner of my odometer?

Now forgive me for being thick but surely this means it is due a service? The car is 4 months old and has only done 3500 miles, it only had 28 whenI bought it from the stealers. So the question is, have they ripped me off with a car thats done "more" miles than they sold it to me with before i even bought it?

Im really angry at the stealerships as I rang and they were like "are you sure you have only done 3500 miles" and things like "you will have to get it in on monday first thing but you cant have a courtesy car until wednesday!" Pffft.

The bloody car is already booked in on Wed for something completely unrelated as I now get a high pitched squealing noise when drive at low speeds (i think its the power steering pump or something related), the CD/MP3 player sometimes swallows my CDs and gives them back to me in 3 days, and all my FR badges are gey and pink! Now this!

I bloody love the car, and I drive it like I own it, not like a stole it. The question is, is this what Seats are really like?

Cheers everyone,

Chris

How old is the car? It is to say a service is needed. I know JBS_Mike_OBD's old beeza was a show room model, so they started it up 6 months before he got it, then registered it when it came to selling, so his had 4 odd miles on the car, a brand new plate but asked to be serviced after a few months of ownership.

Same might be here, whilst its in, get them to reset it. Nothing to worrie about to much imo.

Aha, I see

The car is just over 1 year old now, infact it was registered on 31st October 2005, but with it being a Showroom demo that might be what it is. I never thought of it like that I always thought it was specifically 10k miles gone and then the service light came on...

Cheers

you get this spanner thing for oil and service, for some reason oil comes on at 5000 and service at 10000 (or it did on my old petrol anyway) it probably didn't get a proper reset in the factory, as for selling "Clocked" cars not only it supposed to be very very hard to do on modern cars it's also very very illigel, so i doubt that its that. you can reset it yourself using the odometer reset button and the ignition key, did have instructions on how to do it someware. i'll try and find it

Not a problem, can be worring if you dont know whats happening, as I said whilst it down there, ask them to reset it, and due to the worrie u want a free service :p Worth a try!

As for clocking, ya the sales guy told me you can reset any new car under 100 miles by simply leaving in the milage reset button...

mmm, must admit similar thing happended to me with my old car, was only by chance the teh previous owner sported the car at a ford fair weekend on the last day of me owning it that i discovered teh cars history.

they sold teh car to me saying it was there own demo car - infact teh owner said it was his old car and what he took back to the dealer demanding his money back due to teh faults it had with the engine, only had it for a few month then bought the ibiza brand new to avoid buying other peoples crap.

this was from a ford dealer too in doncaster, just goes to show that you cant trust any of them.

Going a little off topic here, but didnt the log book show another owner? If it was registered to the stealer it wouldnt have been under a personal name or address or whatever, would have said "Ford garage la la la" surely?

Thats shocking either way, and I would have done more than just sell it and get a new car m8y, imo

Thing is, the deal was already done before i found out about teh cars shady past. the reason i got rid of teh ST was that it was drinking fuel, 220 miles from a tank of fuel is shocking and was averaging 22-30mpg at best of times. bought teh ibiza as was cheaper to run, lower insurance just didnt expect to get better performace, that was an added bonus.

My service light didn't come on at 10000 miles - the stealer told me that the timers are time related not mileage related. My car only being six months old at the time - it didn't come on.

makes sence now, there both time and milege related, as its 10,000 miles or a year which ever comes first.

Thats probably what it is then, I can stop worrying now. But quite frankly the gentleman on the phone said "it shouldnt be doing that, bring it in immediately"

It seems like the Seat dealership customer service is shocking to say the least.

Yes, im afriad so!

Ask a Stealer a question, and ask the same question on here, aswell as getting a answer (normally!) quicker on here, it will no doubt be backed up with knowledge of someones else's or a techie that knows, whilst a Stealer will be reading from the "What to do if the customer rings up and asks..." book :D

I have a used Ibiza bought with 10,200 miles on it. The dealer I bought it from had it serviced before I picked it up (at least it says so in the maintenance log, it also shows a service at 5000 miles. The car was registered in Dec 2004. My OIL service indicator came on at exactly 15000 miles and I've been driving with it ever since. The dealers in Cheshunt ( which weren't the ones I bought it from) said it probably wasn't reset at the last service. So I'm going to drive with it like that until the 20000 service (or march whichever comes first). I'm not going to reset it or they'll forget to do it and it'll come on again at 25000...!

So.... mine does seem to be mileage related.

there is a way of reseting this warning light urself buy using the ignitin and trip meter button in a certain order ask the stealers to give you the combination! think it hold trip button down approx 10secs turn ignition on and hold again for ten seconds but cant be certain!
