Towbars are optinal in the Nehterlands (from the dealership where my 2.0TDI is coming from). Removable towbars cost around the 600 euros marks and slightly less for fixed towbars. Accroding to the dealer its is not something that should be undertaken as it takes them roughly 6hrs to fit on & they advice against getting it done at independents (well they would say that wouldn't they?). But the bit about the warranty & manual (advising against it) sounds a bit like horse...t to me.
The LCR did not have a towing weight published and therefore was unlikely to have been homologated for towing. as I understand it, this means it is actually technically illegal to tow anything with it even if a tow bar could be fitted.
The new FR however has a published towing weight (1400kg according to the website) and so can be used for towing. I understand that the problem is that you can't physically fit a towbar with the FR specific rear valance. As Seat don't intend you to fit a tow bar, you don't get the option of having the towing electrics pre-installed.
If anyone successfully installs a tow bar on an FR then please publish how it was done. It was one of the things I wanted on mine but it wasn't a high enough priority to prevent me from buying the car (petrol T FSI FR).
