Darren Turner turned up at the 2006 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship Awards Ceremony with his smart black dinner jacket, black bow tie and brown training shoes, having left his black brogues at home. This, however, later proved to be an advantage, as he was by far the fastest mover on the dance floor!

James Thompson was at the BTCC Awards, but his mind was very much on the final round of the WTCC at Macau. He is currently 11 points behind series leader Augusto Farfus in 7th place, but two good race results in China could still see him become World Champion. “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the year; the last few race meetings have been very frustrating, but the season’s generally been very good,” said James. “I’ve qualified well for most of the year, despite having one of the heaviest cars, and the season was building nicely but, unfortunately, since Brno we’ve had a couple of problems that have crippled us. In some ways, it’s been a season of missed opportunities and the last three race meetings have taken the wind out of our sails a little. Puebla has to be the best weekend of the year for me; despite 45kgs of ballast and the track conditions, I finished fifth in both races and so left Mexico leading the Championship.”

The 2006 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship Awards Ceremony had some unusual trophies to give out this year. Silverstone was one such unsuspecting recipient, winning the ‘everyone else saw it coming except you’ award for receiving record advanced ticket sales for the BTCC finale, yet still being taken by complete surprise when the large number of cars were queued up for miles trying to get in on race day morning, as it had seemingly done little to prepare for the large number of spectators. Nobody from Silverstone was able to collect the award, as they were stuck in traffic. Allegedly!

At least Darren had a good ALMS awards ceremony a few weeks before. Maybe he left his shoes here instead of his house? :p
