Hi, just got a 225 lcr and want to uprate stereo and speakers. I would like to put some 6x9's in but i dont want to cut out the parcel shelf, will they fit anywhere else? Also any suggestions of a good head unit with CD/USB or i-pod compatable? :funk:

thanks

You say you want to change the speakers, therefore why have 6x9's. A high quality to decent set of components in the front doors will help the sound quality, the rear doors with a set of components or coax's and you will have a really good sound stage. If you want more bass add a sub and the clarity would be so much better than having standards with 6x9's. Its just my opinion but 6x9s are not any use when you have components even if standard.

6x9's are rubbish, except in rare circumstances. Go for a good set of front components.

As for the HU, Pioneer, Alpine and Becker make very good head units. There is also a decent JVC HU with DVD that you might be able to get for a good price.

I have the Alpine CDA-9855R, and I cant think of a bad thing to say about it. It is truly amazing. If it matches your budget then go for it - plus it will match the leon dash lights perfectly.

Even on the original speakers the Alpine was amazing.

thanks, i think i will go for some components now. infinity maybe.
Anyone know what size the front and back doors take without me having to take the doors apart. Also do i need to run thicker wires to components.
thanks.

Sorry, have to disagree that 6x9 are rubbish. Matched with a good amp and a mdf stealth shelf they give a much needed boost to the rear sound in the car. Easiest way to uprate in my opinion is to get the 6x9's and a decent shelf to put them on. Connecting the extra speakers via the pre outs and an amp, coupled with having the bonus of the factory installed speakers connected to H/U gives a excellent overall sound. It all depends on how you want to set up your system in the end and how much you want/have to spend. I agree the H/U makes all the difference i have an alpine CDA 9853 and the sound quality from it is superb matched with all the features, gives reasonable power to the standard speakes via the iso connections and all the extra oomph via the amp.
This is just my opinion and others are different of course.

sorry skidder i dissagree i had rockford fosgate replacement components all round in my ibiza run off rockford amp and the sound was amazing.
may as well change the front speakers for good ones and amp them, you dont sit in the back next to the parcel shelf do you, why let your passengers have all the good noise.
if you get a 4 channel amp change the fronts and amp them and bridge the other 2 channels for a sub in the boot.

Each to his own, I suppose it depends on how in depth you want to go with an install etc. I went with the 6x9 route cos it was easiest for me at the time, will eventually change them all out in time. Have to say that Seat seem to position their standard speakers in good places in the car which helps alot. Its good that everyone has an opionion on these things , helps us make a more informed choices. Plus extra noise in the back drowns out the complaints about my driving from the back seat :D
