Hi all,
Hope you lot don't mind me asking as i'm new to this, but can anyone help/advise in or around chesterfield, I have a Corboba 130pd with a performance torque remap - goes like SOAShovel , but now I have clutch slip (after 2000miles). What mods are available and how much? I have seen JBS Chesterfield do an uprated clutch for ~ £750 fitted. Seems a huge amount - anyone know of cheaper alternatives?

Cheers

theres a use of a helix friction plate which some SCN members have opted for instead at about £300.. but i personally think the whole clutch replacement the best plan of action. Had mine on for the last 4k and well not a slip in all that time and I HAVE PUSHED IT HARD... even with all that torque and putting my foot down during corners at low revs no slip... helps also that i spent 1.5k on a ATB diff to thou... lol

Adjust your driving style.

Don't use the accelerator as an on/off switch for power, feed it in gradually & you should be fine !

james's clutch slips he's getting a sachs or helix setup (depends on cheapest) about 400 plus vat and getting a compentant fitter. should cost under £600 if looking around.

it's 4 hours labour you should be charged.

Anyone who fits just a drive disc without fitting an uprated pressure plate at the same time is a fool as it is asking for trouble. Sashs is cheaper but then it doesn`t hold as much bhp or torque. Any mechanic should be able to fit the uprated clutch as it is the same design but with uprated materials so it`s just out with the old and in with the new. Here is where i get my clutch from, Ref 74

I used to say the same, but I can get the clutch to slip in the Passat with very very light throttle applications at certain revs in 4th/5th/6th.

Not having a go but whenever i read people write this sort of thing or the classic " drive around it " when it comes to remapped cars getting clutch slip the first thing that always spring to my tiny mind is why pay hundreds of pounds for a remap to have a more powerful car so that you can drive faster to then be told to accelerate gradually etc which defeats the whole point of getting the remap.

Once your clutch slips for the first time, thats it, its on a slippery slope from then on. A clutch slips because the cover and the drive plate cannot keep clamped on each other. When this happens heat is generated and thus meaning that the clutch will get very hot. In the drive plate is a resin, and when this reaches a sertain temperature, usually over 400 degrees the resin will start to break down and eventually the entire lining will break down and that will be it. The clutch is dead.

If you have been driving it for a while and its been slipping continualsy then there is a good chance your DMF may have been effected.
My tip as i work with clutches and test the everyday under warranty is to replace everything for new, so that means, Uprated pressure plate, uprated drive plate, DMF and a new concentric slave cylinder.

Ive had my organic sachs clutch in for well over 12k miles now, and no slip at all.

Thanks for all the suggestions (some more use than others). I think i've found a cheap and easy cure.
I've found that if i push my seat as far back as it will go the clutch doesn't slip anymore. Unfortunateley the brakes don't seem to work very well now though. Any ideas why???

To the chaps who've had uprated clutches, thanks for the replies but more info on supplier and cost would be helpful. Anybody know how much a standard 130 clutch is?? Is the 150/160/170 clutch any better?

Maybe i'm jus gonna have to bite the bullit and pay to use all that luvly torque!!! (Like a **** - no point having it if yer don't use it)

ibiza cupra and fr have the same clutch and dmf. I have just got a quote from work for redcupratdi for the whole shabang, dmf, csc, pressure plate and drive plate. I can inform you of the same if you want.certanly be a hell of alot cheaper than the shops. Also there is no warranty on the race clutch.

Hi spanny,
Thanks for offer - can you let me know the price from redcupratdi (where are they based?) Although after only 20kmiles and only a tiny amount of clutch slip I don't think I will need a DMF.
